I would say IBprofens and some stretching on the floor. I have used a heating pad but I hear ice packs work good too. Keep moving even if it's walking around in the house-- your back could become even more stiff if you sit still.
My back is achy a lot-- I had some X-rays done and a couple discs are bulging.. But I'm in the pool a few times a week and hot tub too, I also have a inversion table that I use for extra stretching.

Hi Mary, I get the back stiffness too, I have disc problems anyways...sit, stand, lay too long it flares up. I am dealing with right now actually... was in car for a couple of hours... I put on some tiger balm and lay down with my knees up and hope for the best 😃

Hi Lou,
Have you seen a doctor about your disc problems? I think I developed problems in my 20's from a job that I worked at because I've always had problems with yard work and various other things. It wasn't till a couple years ago when they were looking at my hip that the doctor said oh BTW you have such and such. Lately I have been having trouble with it-- don't know if it's weather related, age, or what BUT I should probably get some x-rays just to see. Just wish I took care of my back in the earlier days....

Hi kelly, yes...I went to an orthopedic surgeon and I had an xray of my back and neck. Degeneration in discs, mild scoleosis and arthritis in my neck. I too have worked physical jobs most of my life. In peri now it just seems to hurt all the time...either dull or intense if I try to lift heavy stuff. I am very small framed too. Next to the other 400 issues I have, just deal with it...pain I understand!! 😃

my lower back pain/stiffness, started 5 months ago, followed by a acute acidity problems. lost 3 kilos due to loss of appetite. got checked up by ortho n gastro doc, including ultrasounds n endoscopy n bloodtests. all came back normal. thats when i found this forum. it was like a agod send. i have tried avoiding pain medication as much as i can..but for occasional times like being out all day etc.
what helped me most most most was yoga stretches for back. first always do a 10 min warm up just rotating all parts of ur body...head to feet. then try some of these...but go really slow day by day. hold positions for atleast a count of 30.
remember to breathe correctly. these asanas can be found on youtube. with every day, u will surely feel better. it wd take around 1 month to see results. but continue. i do these n some more n can vouch fr them. of course other major changes i did was to eat healthy. good luck.
