LP Success Story!

Hi- I've decided to write here and share my story to hopefully offer a bit of optimism to fellow LP sufferers! Happy to answer any questions or supply before/after pics.

After a terrifying 6 months of developing horrible blisters around my ankles (and later inner arms and lower back), trips to 3 dermatologists, a lot of internet research and a biopsy, I was diagnosed with lichen planus. I had a kenalog shot (steroids) and was prescribed steroid tape to apply nightly. I removed gluten from my diet, I tried every cream, I even convinced one dr to freeze some blisters off, warts style. But nothing worked and I lived in fear of the ever worsening sores spreading and scarring. As LP eventually clears itself, there's no cure as it doesn't seem to warrant medical time and money. I was scared, embarrassed and frankly fed up, so I decided to leave western medicine behind and seek out an allergy specialist with a Chinese herbalist background. He told me my problem was sugar and he gave me coconut oil pills to kill the yeast in my stomach that was feeding off sugar and I had to cut all sugar out of my diet. After a few months, all of my LP cleared and I'm only left with a few scars. I'm back on sugar now and remain clear of LP. I know this sounds like hocus pocus, but if you really have tried everything, I would highly recommend removing sugars (including white food like white rice, pasta, bread) from your diet as it worked for me and I spent a year trying everything.

Good luck fellow LP sufferers. It can get better!!

Your plan is 100% right, jessicakaplan.  Like you, I abandoned traditional medicine, going to an acupuncturist/Chinese herbalist as well as to an osteopathic M.D.  I got rid of gluten, corn, dairy, and sugar. My remaining vice is wine and I need to stop that as well since it is ultimately sugar.  Congratulations to you!

Jessica, How long did you go off sugar?  How long did it take to notice changes?  I have had LP for almost two years, maybe longer.  I have had other unexplained autoimmune illnesses periodically since 2006.  I am now wondering if some problems I experienced in 2010 and 2011 were related to LP.

Hi! I was off sugar for about 7 months total. Started seeing an improvement after about 5-6 months. I've now been back on sugar for 7 months or so. It's worth a try!

Thanks for your response.  I have it mostly in my mouth, with a few purple spots here and there, and some in my hair.  For the last year, mine in under some control through an immune suppressant drug but  I refuse to stay  on this drug indefinitely so I am seeking alternative treatments.  Giving up sugar is an interesting approach.  I want to give up one thing at a time to see what works.

Hi I in Australia Gold Coast.  I hear way you say.  The same thing happened to me one year ago.  Modern medicine is a waste of time and money with lichen plantus of the body.  I have it and slowly getting rid of the itches, rash and other side effect the liven planus brings to the individual.

i too turned to alternative herbs and natural hemp oil and jojobo oil.  My skin is healing.  My diet is totally fresh veg and fruit.  Enjoy herb tea now, but I do still have a coffee and short crust biscuits.

i do enjoy eating cakes or biscuits.  That is the sugar you talk about.  Yes I agree I have reduce that desire big time.  Totally gluten free food is high priority.  Work constantly on a healthy liver.  And have more respect  for the skin now, do not put creams on that harm the skin or over load the liver.

i am just on 60 years old, I have always been fit.  But.. I have had enourmous stress and work pressure.  To the point I just keep worrying about work.  So. Yep. Stress adds to the itching and issues with hair.

so. To all who read this. Go away from drugs and start at the basic, the food we eat feeds the liver, which feeds the skin, hair, etc.   I need to keep working so I have to change. No drugs do that... But understanding lichen planus diease does help.  Research still does not know the cause, nor cure.  But more positive results are with Chinese or traditional Asian herbs.  Termeric is also verg good.  I made a cream with termeric and oil for my legs. It worked

It is wonderful to receive your positive message. I have LP , 20 nail dsytrophy which means I have lost all my finger and toe nails.  The dermatologist diagnosed it my condition.  Eliminating sugar certainly seems to be the answer, but wow that is a tall order.  Did you eliminate all fruits and some vegetables.  Could you send a short quick list of foods for consumption.  I would love to solve this Problem with a capital P.  I am sure you must have lost weight as well.  Waiting for your response.

Thanks for your post.   So what types of suger did you eliminate? Did you continue to eat fruit which of course is a source of sugar too?  Did you eat gluten free breads or no breads at all?
