LPR... Or something else?

Long story made as short as possible. 5-6 months ago, I had a small bout of heartburn. Nothing serious or to complain about, and it went away very quickly.

Then, about 12 weeks ago, i developed this nagging little cough. Not one to bother a doctor about a cough, bought some cough syrup and took paracetamol, and got on with it. But after 3 weeks, the cough was pretty bad, so saw the doctor.

I described the cough as... A mostly dry cough. Irritating even. But it could also be a productive cough, as i had this feeling of thick, sticky mucus in my throat, making me feel like my throat needed to be cleared - hence the cough. I explained that this cough was a feeling I had "All The Time" not just every 10 - 20 mins or-so. I also explained that I had discovered i had this raspy wheeze sometimes whenever i exhaled fully, which had me panicked a little. Told the doctor id quit smoking cigarrettes 12 months previously... and of course, what he thought it was.

So far, ive been back and spoke to a GP 4 times, and 1 trip to A&E. They said / gave me the following...

Doc 1) Prednisone: To help with my airways following a viral infection.

Doc 2) Sent for a chest X-ray, blood tests and a sputum test: All came back okay / fine / clear, presumably ruling out any bad infection.

Doc 3) Lansoprisol tablets: to treat reflux.

Doc 4) Clarithromycin antibiotics: to treat a bacterial infection, but also told it might be adult whooping cough?

So, i'm at a loss!!! I'm of the opinion it might very well be LPR reflux, because...

have a rusty voice, and avoid trying to speak because it'll trigger the cough.

  1. A throat clearing
