LS and Herpes

Posted , 7 users are following.

I’m a 70 widow who got a very bad case of herpes 1 genital  it went into remission but I still take  a low dose of acyclovir every day to keep from breaking out again.  Now last month I had a biopsy and was told I have LS .  I was given clob and elidel it seems to be better but I hope  the specialist I’m going to in 16 days will have more answers.  Do any of the other older ladies have herpes and LS?

Hi Cheryl, it sounds like you're doing the right things. You're on "suppression" therapy, as they call it, for herpes. When you're not on it, you could just take a one-off higher dose/ or what is recommended, if you get the feeling it's about to come back, but sure you know this anyway. Tbh though, I wouldn't fret too much about the herpes and a link to LS. Personally, I think my triggers were my hysterectomy and low hormones, not any other health condition. But having said that, of course it's important to keep your vulva as healthy as possible, so it doesn't exacerbate the LS. The steroid cream/ointment is important to knock out the immune response ( ie. LS) but in doing so, things like herpes or thrush can appear. In my case, finger's crossed, I've not had any health issues due to using Clobetasol. There is a lot of info about other additional treatments on here to. All the best, Maggie x

Thanks so much for your info and support, so hard to find friends who understand especially in the older generation.  I think they think I’ve done something wrong because it hasn’t happened  to them.

      Happy New Year

Thanks Cheryl, you're very welcome, my lovely. Us ladies should be there for each other. But yes, I understand some things are difficult to talk about to even your close friends. I'm 57, and gone through my fair share of women's problems over the years, including herpes, thrush, BV, fibroids, and pre-cancer twice ( hence my decision to have a total hysterectomy last year) and now LS. All these things are very common, and nothing to be ashamed about, but I do understand these things knock you psychologically as well as physically. I think anything seems worse when first diagnosed, but you can eventually learn to manage it. I've felt very down at times, wanted to give up, but somehow I've managed to hang in there. As I said before, there's lots of good info on this site/forum. Personally, I'm on Clob, oestrogen cream, emollients, oils, borax solutions externally. Internally I'm using a Vagifem tablet twice a week. I'm intolerant to HRT systemically, it affects my mild asthma. I'm seeing good improvement so far, fingers crossed, I've only had LS a few months, diagnosed about 7 weeks ago. I'm under a Dermatology Consultant at the Vulval Clinic. Take care and good luck. Happy New Year to you too Cheryl x

No I don't have both but I can tell you that you should use the Clobetasol lightly. I rub mine in for 90 seconds and use it only twice a week for prevention only. If I have a flare up,then I use it twice a day as ordered by my Dr. Best wishes to you.
