LS and smegma

I had no idea what was causing me to itch so badly and have a sore clitoris despite the use of steroids. My doctor pointed out that I had a build up of smegma under the clitoral hood. Doctor was able to remove it and already feel more comfortable. My clitoral hood is small, like a pin hole, can't see the actual glans. so I have no idea how to avoid this from happening again. It was awful. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks

    Hello Dani

First of all whats is smegma? I use steroid ointment which helps short term but only for a few hours then back to square one. Have you tried dermal wash, it does help but this condition seems to elude the best of them as does any skin condition. Hard to diagnose and treat best to keep each other informed of any breathrough I suppose, until then its back to the ointment. Best wishes .

      Hi glyn,

Thanks for the reply. Yes you're right - hard to diagnose and treat, like most skin conditions. Isn't it frustrating.

Dani, this is exactly what happened when my two inner labia adhered over my clitoris until there was only a pinhole opening. Smegma is cast-off cells, same as what builds up under a man's foreskin if he doesn't pull it back to wash. You were very smart to go to the doctor. Air (and germs) can get in that pinhole. I was squeezing out the smegma, but then it got massively infected. Only after I drained the abcess did I go in to emergency, where they put me on antibiotics. After that, the pinhole healed shut, no air could get in and no more trouble. You go back if it starts to hurt!

      Hi Morrell,

Yes I actually thought of you as I remember reading on another thread about what happened to you regarding this.

I went back to the doctor for numerous reasons but one of them being the horrendous itch and soreness around my clitoris. It started quite suddenly and just continued. I knew something wasn't right and I could see the smegma but was unable to remove it. I have no idea how my doctor removed it but it was a little uncomfortable! Will have to keep an eye on it and like you said go back if it starts up again. So you wouldn't recommend squeezing it out if it starts to build up?

I did it at least daily for about a week and then very suddenly I got infected and my whole crotch and upper inner thighs were swollen and very sore. I could hardly sit. When I look back, I can't believe I didn't seek help. What an idiot! It's all about embarrassment. Now that you've already seen the doctor for this, let him look after you. If I'd gotten antibiotics early, who knows...

I don't blame you, it is embarrassing. But whenever I feel like that I just put it to the side and tell myself that's what these doctors are trained to do.
