Ls biopsy

Posted , 9 users are following.

I was diagnosed just 6 months ago, but had symptoms for 9 months before then which I thought was thrush and used canestan. Since diagnosis, I've been using clob and vagifem which have got the itch etc under control. Unfortunately my labia has fused quite a bit in the last 6 months. Has anyone else found fusing to  happen over a short period of time.  I'm due to go for a biopsy soon as there is an  area that hasn't responded to the treatment.

    Hi Lindylou

i would also ask the same question as Lee.  If they have given you a firm diagnosis why do a biopsy unless they want to be very sure and rule out anything else.  Just a word of warning that if you have been using a Steroid such as Clob then it is not always conclusive that LS will show up as the steroid may have dampened it down.  It is much better to have a biopsy prior to any steroid use.  This happened to me and I had the wrong diagnosis and treatment for months - to be honest I am still unsure if I do have LS because my symptoms are not typical of but some of my appearance is.... Such as absorbed labia minor and inflammation.

If you do go for the biopsy my personal experience was that it was not that bad at all and I had no issues recovering from the biopsy site quickly.  In fact the local injection actually gave me a day of great comfort and I went shopping for hours until the injection wore off!!

Good luck and will be keen to hear your results and if it is detected.

I totally agree about the test not being accurate after youve already been on a steroid awhile..could give a false negative.

When you say fused do you mean stuck to other skin or sort of melted away?

I just had a biopsy Friday. I wish I had gotten one to start with. It wasn't too bad. I had originally had no itching, just white patches which the steroid caused to spread. I then had thinning of the labia and slight shrinking at the top. I feel that this was due to applying the steroid on unaffected labia areas. In retrospect, I think I should have been biopsied at the beginning. The steroids are powerful and should be used wisely. I think they can cause damage if not needed or if they are used incorrectly!

My fusing (over the clitoris) happened very fast, two different times. It seems irreversible, this sticky-labia problem. The two inner labia stick together and heal shut.

You say the biopsy is to be of an area that didn't respond to the drugs. That's the answer. I think the doctor is on the lookout for dysplasia, this is a good thing. You have your LS diagnosis, so you don't need to worry about supressing symptoms with the drugs. We want eagle-eye doctors.

Hi Lindy lou,  why bother with a biopsy?  Yes the fusing seems to happen almost overnight.  I have had this dreadful affliction for about 34 years. It was all itch, so bad I thought I'd would pass out sometimes.  The fusing cameabout just a couple of years ago. It was fast and furious.  First the clitourous disappeared and then it was the labia minora and now to my horror the labia majora is gone.

I thought that after the itch stopped that I would be fine.  Not so! I do use organic coconut oil twice daily so that keeps me comfortable but I feel like I have lost a very important part of me.  I don't even feel like a woman anymore......

Indeed Lindylou the fusing can happen very fast.  Have you done the baking soda baths and rinses already?  My experience is that that does make a difference.  After that use coconut oil to moisturize.  This combination has 'melted' away most of my fusing.  Plus dilation.  And don't forget diet - sugar is the biggest.

I'm wondering about the biopsy - you already know that it's LS?

Thanks everyone for your comments and helpful suggestions. I am having a biopsy on a part of the labia minora that hasn't responded to treatment. It  is a small red spot. The consultant diagnosed ls on sight at my first appointment before I had any treatment. As for fusing , yes I meant it has 'melted' , there's not a lot left. Must try the baths and coconut oil . Thanks for all your comments, this is such an awful condition, great to be able to talk to others who have to deal with it.
