LS + Herpes Zoster

Does anyone who suffer from LS also have itchy skin on the legs + arms as well?

I had itchiness on my legs which lasted for for months living in Swiss central heating environment.  They practically disappeared when I went back to Hawaii and was able to swim in the ocean in February/March.  I just returned to Switzerland less than a week ago, the rashes are returning on my legs and a little on the arm in a big way. This time they look like "Herpes Zoster" (like goose pimples and opening liquids).

Granted that I have a compromised auto-immume system (when stress levels are high, exhaustion from packing/traveling etc), all these symptoms act out i.e. more itchiness and sensitivity around the vagina as well.   Also, the fact that I am now back in 'central heating' environment where I am living now.

I am making an appointment to see a dermatologist in Germany next week.

To avoid going around in circles with the so-called ‘specialists’, I would very much appreciate narrowing down and ask my LS commmunity for their wisdom based on your experiences and observations.  I have more faith in my peer group because you guys live with this condition daily.

If not, what kind of questions do I need to ask to get closer to the solution.  Thanks all.

I have the itchiness too. For me it's dry skin and eczema and patches of LS.  My husband has more what you are describing and the dermatologist told him that it was eczema...( winter eczema ?... I had never heard of that!) Please let me know what your dermatologist has to say!

I have been seeing a medical herbalist who is helping me get my LS under control. She told me that some people who

have food intolerences say for example gluton, dairy ,suffer from what is known as an itchy liver. This can come about over many years.it means that the liver is not functioning 100 percent and is very common. You also find that these people usually have other auto immune diseases like vetiligo which I also have. About 3 years ago I had a huge sore on my leg that took 6 or so months to heal, the doctor was at a loss and was going to do a biopsy to see what it was, but at the last minute after using very strong steroids it cleared up. This was about a year before I was diagnosed with LS. I don't understand it fully but I think it's all to do with our immune system .i need to ask her to explain the itchy liver condition a bit more to me.

I've tried to research "ITCHY LIVER" but only found reference to itchy skin from liver disease.  Is that what your herbalist means?  I have the same skin leg/arm lesions, but they are non-itchy, but definitely flare when my LS flares. No doubt about it.

Hi Shima not a hundred per cent sure. I think she said that people with long term food intolerances develop livers that do not function properly and have the appearance of a fatty liver similar to an alcoholic liver. I think this in turn has an effect somehow on the immune system which then causes autoimmune disorders. I am not seeing her for another couple of months but will make a point of asking her more in depth questions and will let you know.

I finally got my legs to calm down by rubbing in some witch hazel, applying some aloe vera gel & then some cream used for eczema made by aveeno.  It took a couple of days for the itching to totally subside and for the healing to begin. Yes, it is icky on how it weeps if you have scratched it. For the private areas I just use the witch hazel in a spray bottle and a dab of 99% pure or higher aloe vera gel to stop the itch.  This has also returned my skin in that area to a healthy pink.
