what is the best lubricant for sexual intercourse when you have LS? I have been intimate with my husband more than normal this past month and it has caused me to be in so much pain. does anybody have any good advice on keeping pain and tearing to a minimum during sex as well as the days after?? I'm 31 and still very intimate with my husband and need advice how to manage going forward when sex can cause so much pain 😦 😦

best advice that I can offer for sex is not to have it if you are having any kind of a flare up for myself it just makes you miserable longer. So if your not having a flare up I think whatever kind of lube that you prefer. In the days after I have noticed that if I do a baking soda bath that greatly decreases my chance of problems. now baking soda baths is warm water and normal baking soda like what you use to bake with. I use about 1/2 cup of baking soda in the tub and I swirl it in the water til it dissolves and then I sit in the tub for about 30 minutes. I hope that helps.

Me and my boyfriend use coconut oil. He never complains infact he likes it and it means it's all natural so no chemicals to flare up the LS.

I've found if your having a flare up just don't go there, I also find when having a flare up. we have sex once then I have to leave it about 4 days before we can do it again. we use coconut oil . wash everytime you go toilet and moisturise with ointment like 1% steroid cream or coconut oil. but sometimes nothing helps you just put your cream on and keep washing after a pee use baking soda soak or I've just discovered to use borax, not the corrosive cleaner. I bought it on line. good luck so sorry to hear you've got this so young my heart goes out to you xx

I agree about the 4 days Stephanie ... I find about 4-5 day break in between lets you recover, although I am struggling at the moment due to recurrent utis after sex. I can't use coconut oil as we use condoms and it can cause them to deteriorate.

    Hello Robin

I use Replens personal lubricant I actually order it in from the USA (Im in UK) ... I've not found one here that works as well or doesn't irritate me yet. Dont' get the Replens moisturiser, its the lubricant you need. Very effective, in my opinion - so slippy it's hard to hang on to the little bottle lol so works well and, for me, no adverse reaction. Hope this helps.

Robin- I use v- magic that I get on Amazon. Works well, and also wash right after sex with Cetaphil or plain water and blot dry area well.

Hello Robin, just to add the male perspective on this - I have always used Clobetasol (usually Dermovate) to control my LS that I have been treating for almost 8 years. You do not say what it is that you use to keep your LS at bay or controlled normally?

As already mentioned by others I have found Coconut Oil to be the best lubricant - but again if condoms are part of what you require you need to be careful with ordinary latex condoms, however, polyurethane ones are okay with the Coconut Oil.

Until recently I was simply using the Clobetasol to control the LS and prevent flare ups. For sexual purposes this has meant I have sometimes had to apply it 2 or even 3 times within a 24 hour period. So, you need to be a little predictive and apply the Steroid as many hours before sex taking place as you can, but still on the same day, or 24 hour period.

However, thanks to a prompt by Nancy KB I have started using both her suggested mix of Aloe Vera Gel and Essential Turmeric Oil - and / or Coconut Oil during intimacy itself. I personally have had no side-effects or worsening no matter what mix I use.

My suggestion would be this try Nancy's suggested mix - although I would suggest a cautious approach and start with this mix: 2 tablespoons of a good quality Aloe Vera Gel (you can get 99% pure) to which you add 2 small drops of Turmeric Essential Oil and mix well together. Store in a clean airtight container. Apply to your entire genital region and anywhere where tearing or LS infected skin is an issue for you. A light coating is all you need to keep the skin moisturised and supple - although you may need to use the mix for 4 or 5 weeks to allow your skin to become supple and gain elasticity.

If you get no adverse reactions to the mix, or no particular benefit, you can step up the mix to include 4 small drops per 2 tablespoons, and again if you get no adverse reaction, you can try a mix of 6 small drops per 2 tablespoons. Try the stepped approach and find what mix suits your LS condition best.

The wonderful thing with using the Turmeric Essential Oil with the Aloe Vera is the aroma that is created - simply blissful in itself and can certainly get you in the right mood for anything .......

I use Yesyesyes from the website of the same name . All totally natural ingredients and it can be used as a moisturiser as well . There is oil based or water based and one of them is compatable to use with condoms . All the info is on the website . I hope your flare up is a little better , Annette
