Lucia is waiting at the end of the tunnel

Hi everybody!

Seven years ago on December 13 I came off pred. I chose that day because it is very easy to remember as December 13 is the day of Lucia - the girl with candles in the hair brightening us in the dark and cold season. Well, there she was at the end of the tunnel waiting for me and ever since that day exactly 7 years ago I have been off pred and have not had any relapses.

During the past week, the Nobel prize has been given to the Nobel prize winners and many of them stay until to-day December 13. We could read some years ago, one of the Nobel laureates was sleeping in the hotel room and he was awakened by a Lucia with attendants singing Lucia songs for him. Like many of the laureates, he was an old man and he thought he had come to heaven and the angels sang for him!

After a few weeks of mostly rain, to-day we have 0 C and some sun shine. We don´t have the snow and the cold weather that we used to have when we grew up and celebrated Lucia. But now that I am 78, I am glad that we don´t have so much snow and cold days.

Who is next to come out of the tunnel?`

Lucia greetings

Ragnar

Thank you for the hope!  I sure needed that as I start my dead slow taper and am annoyed with this weight gain.  Hope is essential!  I WILL get there.  Happy Lucia greetings back atcha.

    Hi Ragnar,

Happy St. Lucia Day to you, also. And thank you for your words of encouragement and hope. It means a lot to know that you and others are symptom free and off Prednisone!

After 2 years am now reducing from 4.5 to 4, having started at 20 mg.

Thank you for all wishes about Happy Lucia and Christmas.

For those who want to know more about celebrating Lucia, you can google Wikipedia Saint Lucy's Day. There is quite a long description and as Eileen wrote, parts of Italy also celebrate Lucia. In Sweden, we mostly think about Sicily in connection with St Lucia

A German friend from Düsseldorf sent a newspaper article many years ago. There was a party with a Swedish group in Düsseldorf and they celebrated Lucia and they also had what we call "star boys". Somebody called for the police and said there was a group from Ku Klux Klan! The star boys wear a white dress and have a white cone on their heads with some golden stars glued onto the hat. They also usually hold a stick with a star on top. When the police found out that it wasn´t KKK, they dropped off very quickly.

Hello Ragnar, It's wonderful to hear that you are well and have not had any relapses for so long.  I also love your vision of Lucia and the connection she has to you coming off Pred'.  I am down to 3mg's a day and feeling well.  I'm very positive about coming off Pred altogether and your story is very inspiring.

Keep well and have a festive season full of blessings and light.
