Lumbar puncture

Could anyone tell me how painful is a lumbar puncture

    Mine was not painful at all. The doctor that did it was very good at it so I was told. I believe he also used visual aid either via xray or something else to make sure he put the needle in the correct place. Most doctors have done numerous LP's, so I would not worry. Make sure you get a prescription for butalbital. It is acetominophen with caffeine and will help you if you get headaches the days after the LP. Also, make sure you lay flat for a whole day after the LP. Your doctor can discuss that with you.

      Thank you makes me feel a bit better I was just worrying about it because ever since I've been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis they were going by my MRI scan and now they want to get a closer idea thank you once again

    Hi area no not painful the doc will numb the area where he is taking the sample you will lay on your side knees up it doesn't take long.

    Afterwards the docter suggested I drink plenty off coffee witch I did I was up after about half an hour didn't have a headache at all hope that helps george

    Hi I had my LP while in hospital and I was also about 8 month pregnant.it didn't hurt at all it was a young man doing it and he was very good! I didn't get told to drink anything after and I was sat up for the whole thing.i hadn't even heard of one before I had it so maybe that was a good thing because i didn't really know what was going on.

      Yes the 10th of march a day before my birthday
