Lumigan.... Dry/Sore throat.

Posted , 4 users are following.

I have been using Lumigan eye drops for 12 days due to suspected

glaucoma, after 3 days I started to get a really dry mouth during the night.

I also wake with a sore throat each morning that eases a bit throughout

the day but returns again during the night..... it's always at the front of my

throat.

I'm supposed to use the drops each night for 2 months and even though

the pressure build up feels better there's no way I can keep feeling like I do as it's so painful, even swallowing feels like razor blades sliding down my

throat and drinking water to try and ease it is a nightmare.

Could this be symptoms caused by using Lumigan?

There's no mention in the side effects leaflet.

I have been on Lumigan for 5 years & do not have your symptoms, only eye irritation

There are serious side effects of all Glaucoma eye drops which affect users in vaying degrees. Though no such side effects are given in the leaflet yet it is probably due to use of these drops. Consult your Doc and get some other drops prescribed. That may help.

brand of eye drops that I can try.

It may be the drops going from your eyes into your throat. You could try holding your tear ducts gently for a minute or two after putting the drops in so that it can't leak leak down into your nose and throat.

Well, Today I returned to the eye clinic where I saw a different person to

who I saw at the end of December.

I explained that the drops caused side affects and could he advise.

This man I saw today, goes by Mr and not Dr......and is the regular eye

person at the clinic.....the one who gave me the drops is a locum Dr who stands in very rarely when said Mr is away.

I had a pressure test on my eyes done again and was told that there was

no need to be taking the Lumigan drops.....or any for that matter....as the

pressure in my eyes was within the normal range of 20.... One eye being

    14 the other 17.....

I explained that the drops had eased my watery eyes and I no longer had

a feeling of pressure build up in the side of my head.....He said that any

feelings of pressure wouldn't be anything to do with Glaucoma as that is

not a symptom, and even if the drops had dried up the watery eye it's a

bit drastic to keep taking Lumigan just for that when Optive drops from

the chemist will be as good but with less chemicals in them.

He asked me if I wanted to continue with them.....I was so confused I

    said yes.

He's adamant that I don't need them... didn't offer an alternative either

I back in 3 months for a check up with him and I'll have regular checks

    there after..

So confused and really don't want to be putting strong meds in my eyes

    if not needed.

Go off the Lumigan. It is just to lower eye pressure which as your dr said u do NOT need. I have been on Lumigan for several years, and believe me, I would do anything to get off them.  They cause dark circles under my eyes.  Looks like someone punched me in the eye & eye irritation but I need them for my glaucoma as other drops do not work to lower the pressure.  All these glaucoma drops as your dr said are chemicals.  Follow his advice.

      Thanks...

I'm pretty sure I will stop taking the drops and hope that regular checks will catch anything that/if shows up....

Can't get my head around why the other Dr

      gave me them....
