Lump behind knee Not Bakers Cyst so what is it?

I'll try to keep this short. In November I started feeling some weakness in my left leg. I went to the doctor he did a general once over and said it was nothing. A few days later after getting out of the shower, I noticed swelling on the backside of my leg behind my knee. When feeling around, felt a small pea sized lump I head back to the doctor, get an ultrasound for suspected Baker's cyst. They said it is not a Baker cyst and nothing showed up on the ultrasound so they sent me for an x-ray and that also came back negative. I kind of let the issue go and recently it has crept back into my mind because sometimes my leg will ache with full pain. The weakness has started to come back and I'm a little concerned that this may be something. Anyone experienced anything similar? Any thoughts on what this might be?? Would an ultrasound pick up anything of a concerning nature?

I'm a natural worry wart and over analyze everything.

Just to update everyone. I went back to the doctor about the lump in my knee and he sent me for an EMG. Not really sure why I guess because he said with aching pain it could be nerve related. As expected, the EMG came back negative so I'm scheduled tomorrow for an MRI. I will go to his office on Tuesday for the results and I'm a nervous wreck. Please say a prayer that this turns out to be nothing more then an annoying lump getting the best of my anxiety

Good luck with it elizabeth. I have not had any tests than x-ray as I said before, so I'm not sure whether they are right about mine either. But I'm supposed to be having a knee replacement in a few weeks. I have a pre-op coming up and will mention it then. Take care.

Update. So my orthopedist gave me my MRI results today and said that my knee was totally fine. The mass they saw was just a soft tissue mass that was not encased in any knee nerves or anything like that. He said they were not concerned whatsoever about the mass and that the woman at the radiology center is in big, big trouble. To be honest, I forgot a lot of the questions I had because his reactaction was very upsetting. He said in no way should that woman have commented on what she saw good, or bad. I begged him not to say anything but as I was leaving I could hear he was already on the phone with the radiologist of the imaging center I went to.

So the good news is it doesn't appear to be anything other than a soft tissue benign mass and the bad news is a woman may lose her job bc of me and that would be such a shame if she did.

Good news for sure, after all your worry. Perhaps the radiologist will just get a telling off - they won't likely tke it further if you aer not making an official complaint. They should not cause you extra worry by commenting before the scans are properly analysed. Take care.

    Update

So I'm freaking out super bad now. Went for MRI at 4pm. When done the technician came into the room and said don't be surprised if they call you over the weekend for a contrast MRI. I asked her why, and she said that there was something on there and it looked really weird but she couldn't figure out what it was. I asked her if I should be concerned and she said no she didn't think so. Then she invited me into the room to take a look at the image. She said it was small but it definitely was something and it could be on my nerves cheese or a lymph node. I again asked her if she thought it was something Bad and she said, "it's nothing to write home about" but when I was getting dressed I heard her in the hallway tell the other front desk person to send the images to the radiologist house this evening.

I am totally freaking out because if she thought it was nothing to write home about why send my imaging to the radiologist house????Of course I got on Google and having a malignant tumor on your nerves is practically a death sentence. I'm in tears and close to losing it. I wish that woman would've never said anything.

      Dear Elizabeth,

It has been two months since your last post.  Recently I also have developed a lump behind the knee that an ultra sound has shown not to be a baker's cyst.  It is causing me a lot of discomfort as well as a numbness in the lower leg, as if it has gone to sleep, which I am taking to be a nerve problem.  Was your lump ever acurately diagnosed?

I had an MRI and they said it was just a benign soft tissue mass. Nothing of issue. So I don't know exactly what it is but they say it's nothing to worry about

Hi Robin, I know this is an old post, but I have become desperate. I too have a lump behind my knee, and my entire lower leg seems to be numb and asleep for over two months.  Any news on your situation? Has it resolved?

      Any

Hello Elizabeth, I'm having the same problem in my right knee. I went for an ultrasound and it turned out that is normal. Strange because my leg said otherwise. Is painful and swelling and can't bend my knee.

So frustrating but like I will do, I suggest you to get other doctor's opinion.

    Is better !!

I hope you feel better soon!

    Take care!

My wife had a lump on the side of her knee and, after the latest surgery, a lump behind the knee.

Surgeon said that these cysts are very common in an arthritic knee.

For over 5 months I have not been able to walk properly.

It started with varicose veins in the back of both legs. I went to the doctors to be told it was vascular veins.

Over the next month I had pain in the front, back of legs. My shins and ankles. I went back to the doctors a d was diagnosed with the same thing.

Now I am still in pain and have a lump in my left knee. I struggle walking up the stairs, getting up of a chair and I cannot walk anywhere. What is going on?
