Lump on jaw

hello all i am looking for anybody who has ever heard or had a similar experience.

so i have a hard non movable lump on my chin (bottom jawline right side) feels fixed and solid and has been growing.

it cant be seen from the outside of my face but can be felt easily; feels like a grape and has been there since i felt it in november getting bigger slowly

i have seen someone about this - had an ultrasound and was told it might be sinister so i have to have an mri and i have been reffered to a specialist and have an appointment due to the urgency i just want to know if anybody else has ever had anything similar or knows someone who did and what it was

i saw my dentist first who never even looked at it and told me it was an abcsess - so as a follow up question should i ask for a new dentist? and should i call my dentist to tell them whats been going on?

thankyou

Abscesses in that area are usually painful and throbbing. If your dentist didnt even look at it, to me that sounds very wrong. An abscess also means an infection and I'm surprised your dentist didnt suggest a course of antibiotics or an xray of your jaw.

At the moment concentrate on the advice you have been given and have the MRI and see the specialist. It may be nothing at all but at least you will know.

If it does prove to be an abscess then its your decision whether you go back to the original dentist. If it proves to be something else then change your dentist. You may also like to send a polite letter to the original dentist informing him/her of why you are leaving.
