Lung Recovery

Posted , 5 users are following.

Hi guys,

Anyone have any idea how long it roughly takes for the lung to recover after partial collapse due to blood clot(s). When I think it has recovered, I start to feel a little breathless or coughing again then start to panic. I am due an echocardiogram on monday almost 3 months after being diagnosed. I know that can show blood flow to the heart but do not know if it can say whether the lungs are clear.

For few months (maybe six or so) I occasionally felt slight difficulty breathing, especially when the weather was wet. Apparently it's quite common. I had bilateral multiple PE with lower lung collapse following DVR. In my case the clots resolved after about 3 months.

    Good luck and take care!

Just when I think I'm ok.. I catch a cold. My asthma kicks in but my lungs dont respond as well to meds for asthma anymore. Aftereffects of the PE's. My lungs don't move air like before PE'S. I really miss out walking and not gettingshort of breath.

      Hi sue,

I am sorry you are still having these problems were your PE's very long ago. I keep thinking I am coming down with a cold but then it goes. Luckily I am able to go for a walk everyday and deep breath while walking. The doctor said my lungs will recover so I am hoping he is right.

Was off the blood thinners less then 3 months, got sick in June of this year and this time developed clots in both lungs. So, only 2 months ago I developed more. Now I'm a lifer on blood thinners. Now it's forest fire season and my city in Washington state is getting very smokey. This time I know what to expect but I get inpatient with the healing process and hoping I haven't developed more pulmonary hypertension from this last batch of PE's.

Hi Jen. I also had multiple PE's in both lungs and DVT. My right lower lung is not working as it should due to this. I have asthma and find it difficult at times with breathing. I also still get sharp pains in my lung. Dr said that I have very bad scare tissue....if this will go away? I don't know but I was told that recovery can take up to 2 years. Some people take longer.

This happened to me in July 2017.

I hope that you will recover soon. All the best!

That is a long time mardi to still be suffering, not being given an indication as to how long it would take for the lung to recover is fustrating. I really hope you get better soon.

Hi Christina. I had a lot of sharp pain in my right lung. The dr thought I might have had water on the lung as it wasn't working like it should and she sent me for an Xray. It wasn't and she said the xray showed bad scare tissue. It comes and goes.

Is there not another Dr that can help you and put your mind at ease?

Take care of yourself! Chat soon.
