Lyme? Anxiety?

Exactly one month and 9 days ago, I got itchy and had seen a bite on my knee. Next day I had to work and it got worse, it was getting bigger, it was hard and swollen and had a ring. I went to urgent care and he said I had “an allergic reaction to whatever bit me) keep in mind he never said what bit me. I was prescribed doxycycline for 7 days. I left for a trip for 3 days after... I came back and I couldn’t hear.. went to urgent care again said I had a so called ear infection. I stopped taking the doxy after 5 days. Started taking amox.  It cleared up but suddenly after my hands became shakey.. my legs felt like jelly.. I had awful headaches.. joint+muscle pain.. I took a week off work and still felt like this. I decided to see a GP, I was diagnosed with severe anxiety and depression.. (its been a month since this happened) I started anti depressants.. but i keep remebering what my doc asked me. “Did something traumatic happen to you in order for you to feel so depressed?) I had no answer because nothing traumatic did happen.. I wake up feeling like I have the flu every day. I don’t think that’s normal for anxiety. I have headaches. Now today thinking back to try and pin point to what caused this, I started feeling like this after the bite... as it did happen shortly I had that bite. I am now starting to wonder if I have Lyme disease. All my symptoms match.. I have floaters in my left eye now.. I am just so confused. People keep saying it’s anxiety but does anxiety really make you this sick? please help me.

Do you live or have neen where mosquitoes are a problem this time of year. Incubation is 2 to 14 days but symptoms do last a long time. Probably it’s that sneaky anxiety but as long as your doing a Lymes test a simple blood test can r/o a mild case of West Nile virus too.

Not really. I don’t live where there should be any ticks either. That’s why I’m wondering if it was a tick that bit me. rolleyes

    Hi,

When I searched online, there are articles on this subject, saying that it could be related to Lyme diesease.

It would be a good idea to get a blood test for Lyme Disease, if it's possible?

    Hope you can resolve this!

    Best,

I have had Lyme disease and is nasty. Same thing, I got bit by something and then a red ring formed around the bite. I forgot about it but months later I came down with all the bad symptoms-muscle and joint pain and spasms, muscle twitching, headaches, floaters in the eyes, vision problems and rheumatoid symptoms for the first time in my life. My problem was, I caught it decades ago before Lyme disease was well known.

I finally found a Doctor who would treat it with massive anti-biotics and I eventually got better. But the disease is much more well known today, there are tests they can run to look for Lyme antibodies and so on. I would search out an infections diseases expert and tell him about your symptoms and he will run diagnostic tests on you.

It may not be Lyme, many things can cause those same kind of symptoms. But why take the chance when there are tests that can determine it beyond all question? Good luck and keep us posted.

Could you tell signs of Lyme from just a CBC test? I’ve done a metabolic pannel that came out clear. Also thyroid test came out fine. I am just so scared. They had wanna do a CBC but I haven’t done so yet. So I think I will some time this week before I go to my appt. I hope the doctor doesn’t think I am crazy for thinking this. It’s just too insane to even think anxiety could make me feel this sick. I will let you know what happens!

      Hi candycakez,

The appropriate test, might also depend on symptoms.

"If you have symptoms of Lyme disease affecting your nervous system, such as neck stiffness and numbness in hands or feet, you may need a test of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). CSF is a clear liquid found in your brain and spinal cord. During this test, your CSF will be collected through a procedure called a lumbar puncture, also known as a spinal tap. During the procedure:"

A CBC test is helpful, but it will not tell you definitively if you have Lyme disease. You need a specialized blood test that looks for Lyme antibodies. I had all kinds of blood work done when I first became ill, but this was 30 years ago and, in Michigan, Lyme was not well known. They saw out of normal conditions in my blood-like high sed count and so on-but it didn't point to anything in particular. Tests available today are much more specific.
