Lyrica 75mg

Hi I have nerve pain due to herniated disc L4 L5, had one cortisone injection in October that didn't work.  Also had cortisone tablets which helped but you can't stay on them for long.  Tried Amitripyline and Gabepentin, not good.

My neurologist has put me on Lyrica 75mg.  The nerve pain has gone, but I am so tired during the day have to have a nap.  75mg at night is ok no side effects.  Have been on them 4 days.  Does anyone know how long the side effects last? I have a condition called Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia which is similar to MS.  It affects mainly the legs by weakening and tightening the muscles.

hi, i've been taking lyrica for years, for MS pain symptoms, i'm now on 200mg, twice a day. when i first started on a lower dose, they practically floored me. i can only describe the effect as being stoned. what was really odd, though, was the fact that this effect just stopped (a week after starting on them), over the space of a day. but the pain relief kept working. after being in awful pain for more than a year it was incredible to feel back in control.

there's no guarantee that it'll stop causing problems the same way for you, as it did for me, but stick with them for as long as is practicable, and hopefully they'll settle down for you, too. it's just a case of finding the right thing for you, so go back to your doc if and when you need to.

    good luck.

      Thanks Wendy,

I am determined to keep going with the Lyrica as it really has helped with the nerve pain.  Still feel tired but not as spaced out as when I started a few days ago.  Going back to doctor on Wednesday to see if I have to up the dose.

i'm really glad it's looking like it's going to be as successful for you as it's been for me. i found that when i increased the dose it didn't make me dizzy/stoned. it was just when i first started on it. like you, gabapentin didn't work for me, but for some other's with MS it's the other way round. i'm also on nortriptyline, which seems to 'back up' the pregabalin. basically i rattle as i walk now!

    good luck.

Thanks Wendy, yes I'm hoping that the Lyrica works, gabapentin was horrible.  I also take Baclofen which relaxes the muscles in my leg so they are not tight.  Hoping 150mg daily may to the trick.  Will let you know how I go.

yes, please do let me know how you get on, but mind how you go when you're out and about, until the side-effects settle down. i find baclofen really useful too, particularly to let me sleep more comfortably. years ago when i was about to be switched to lyrica, i found that reducing my dosage of gabapentin was horrendous, i felt seriously 'sea-sick for a few weeks. awful stuff!

    bye for now x

Yes, I know what you mean about taking it easy out and about.  When I first started on the Lyrica I made sure that I didn't drive for a few days.  I am able to drive now but still take it easy with other things, like walking.

      Take care
