I can't take Neurontin/Gabapentin (insane weight gain) or Lyrica (no effect on me).  I rub Voltaren Gel (RX in the US) on the area and it helps.  I've had a laminectomy and two fusions...you need to exercise to strengthen the lower back.  NO BENDING EXERCISES!  This takes time.  Golfers are forbidden to swing a club for six months and then lightly for six months after that.  The bone has to FUSE back together.  PT helps a lot in getting you on track with safe exercises.

I have been on Lyrica since op in March 2015.  They had me on 450mg a day while in hospital, as soon as I was released I started cutting the dose back, now on 225mg a day but cannot go any lower, the pain gets bad if I miss a tablet or go any lower.

Have not had any side affects that I know of, but they do work for me and hopefully I can lower the daily dosage over time.

When was your surgery?I had a multi level fusion in April. 10 days in I had intolerable nerve pain, went to ER. I was given a steroid pack for 1 week and it took care of it by the second day.. I had another flare up 2 weeks ago but not as intense. ( back and leg pain with tingling and pain in big toe). I took 1 dose of naproxen which is supposed to be avoided for at least the first 3 mo. But because of the pain my surgeon told me to go ahead as long as I took it only once or twice. I am now pain free again. His explanation was that the nerves were being inflamed by the surgery and movement and the healing process. I was offered lyrica or neurtonin which I refused .

Hope your pain subsides. Nerve pain is terrible!
