lyrica not working at all

Posted , 2 users are following.

have severe nerve pain & other related pains ranging from 24/7 excriciating cramps in my right calf often accompanied by unpleasant pipns & needles. I also have sharp shootng pain through my ankle & into the bone. Then i have pain behind my knee & spasms & sharp pain in my buttock. I can only walk 300 metres max before i have to stop due to pain across the sacro-iliac area. Last week my GP put me on 75mg lyrica per day - did nothing so she doubled the dose to 300mg 5 days ago. She told me to increase to 600mg per day if this didn't help. So far, i can't get any relief from my pains, i can only sleep for 3 hours before i have to get up to try & deal with the pain. As i work full-time, it's taking all my physical & emotional energy to get through each day.

anyone else find lyrica not helpful & was anything else recommended for them?

Hi. My story is the same as yours. Gp increased me up to 600 with no effect. I have reduced myself back to 75 and pain is only slightly worse than with the 600. Have been on oxycontin and another opiate starts with P. I still had pain with them. I am at the point now where i can say nothing out there will help me. And the old Gp's, God love them, they really have little idea what they are doing. Here in Australia they are paid by the drug companies to peddle there wares. Guess that happens elsewhere. Hope you can get it sorted. I was thinking of taking up alcohol again to see if that helps. lol.

i'm in asutralia too.  Alcohol has been suggested by a few friends but i don't like the taste unfortunately! To complicate matters for me, is that i'm allergic to opiates & their derivatives. i'm really struggling with this pain & it's doing my head in. i can't affordnot to work but jeez, it makes for a long hard day....

i'm sorrry to hear that nothing is working for you. how do you handle this on a daily basis?

Hi ali20330. the constant pain is turning me into a vicious cranky man, i really am at my wits end. If it continues i may have to leave home to give my wife some peace. With the Gp's it is all trial and error, it has been my experience they really have no idea. One of the ladies from the Chemist shop told me about a couple of anti depressants that could be ok for pain. I will see the Gp tomorrow and see what happens. Thanks for your concern, i was going to put stay well but we both know thats a bit hard. The chemist also told me Lyrica is only effective in 4 out of 5 cases with pain. Should also mention i had a cerebral aneurysm double clipped over 10 years ago and pres meds have the silliest of effects with me. What i am saying is very few of them work at all. It has been my experience as well as many others that once the brain is touched things go a bit awray.

      Hey Noel,

I completely understand your comment about thinking about leaving home to give your wife peace!! I'm struggling, both physicallly & emotionally to keep on working full-time but I have no option in that. i see a pain specialist in Jan & have my fingers crossed. Saw my GP who has increased my Lyrica to 600 mgs a day but I really haven't noticed any difference. She thinks I have regional pain syndrome & painted a rather bleak future for me. I'm trying acupuncture & anything else anyone suggests that's not too out there! I wish you all the best & hope some relief comes your way soon.

Hi Ali. Well i saw the Gp today and he wanted to prescribe me a cream that was constructed out of chilli's, yep thats right. I was on oxycontin 2x50 with minimal effect so the chilli one has got me. I am going to try endep 1x25 to see if it gives me a better sleep. I worry about some Gp's, are they Dr's or chefs

HI Ali. Yesterday my gp gave me Targin 5mg. It worked to a degree. Knocked my pain back 50%. I am as happy as anddddddddddddd i just realized you are unable to take opiates, by all accounts they are somewhat different and are a very low dose. Would be great if you could try it.

oh noel, I'm so sorry to hear that. must be so hard when u felt so good n probably built your hopes up - thinking u had a pretty good solution. I hope that it's just a dosage thing cos 5 mg is a low dose. all the best at the doctor's. I see the pain specialist on thurs n have my fingers crossed.

Hi. He doubled the dose and that lasted for a few days but the pain has returned again.  Fed up with the pain. As it is the weekend i will increase it myself this time, just double up. When i was on oxy i was on the max dose but even that never took all the pain away. I assumed Targin would be better than oxy due to less opiates in it, obviously i was wrong. so tonight i will take 2x20 and see how that goes. Pain is a terrible thing as you would know. Just wondering if i should have stayed on oxy, least i got some relief. I have had one of those bone scan things, not too bad. Please stay as well as you can. Forgot to mention i have even tried medical cannabis oil with very little effect as well. Bloody lost cause i think.
