Lyrica reaction

Want to share my recent experience with Lyrica. I have been taking 200 mg. daily. No change in foot neuropathy. My dr. recommended that i should increase dose to 300 mg. daily. After taking the new dosage for 3 days, I woke up with horrible stabbing muscle pain in my legs. I went back to 200 mg. daily. Also, my cardiologist recommended a low carb diet 2 months ago to lose weight and lower triclycerides. The triclycerides dropped 200 pojnts in 2 months! However, I have not lost a pound. I have faithfully stayed on the low carb diet. I am calling my neurologist on Monday asking him the best way to wean off the medication. I know you cannot stop it abruptly. Any advice?

I would wean off the medication and don't take any other alternative nerve drugs that your doctor might offer. All of these drugs are toxic and even if they do help the neuropathy, they cause other problems Upping the dose increases the chance of side effects Your best option is to live with the neuropathy. My neuropathy comes and goes in flare ups. No matter how bad they are, I suffer them. Heat is the best therapy for me. My doctor kept offering me different drugs even when I told him I didn't want them. I had to be very firm and single minded in refusing especially when he fobbed me off that all the bad reviews were simply people being negative. If you have any doubts at all about side effects, tell you doctor you don't want the medication and don't be afraid to be firm about it. These medications are not a cure but only a sticking plaster even if they work. It is pointless taking a drug for pain if it ends up causing you more pain. Try to investigate natural remedies yourself.

i really appreciate your advice Pippa. I will not take any more nerve meds once I wean off Lyrica.

May I ask what kind of heat therapy do you use? Also, have you tried acupuncture? I have seen some positive reviews. Thanks.

Hot weather in Italy keeps the neuropathy at bay and a warm house in the UK also helps. Hot showers in the morning are good as well. When I'm having tea or coffee, I put the hot mug onto the nerve damaged area to soothe it. Unfortunately, I have to stay away from so called natural therapies like acupuncture because they have the same side effects as deep tissue massage and chiropractory which left me with severe exhaustion and pain for nine months. My doctor insisted on a blood test to rule out other causes even though I told him I was certain the chiropractor and masseuse had caused it. I had the blood test against my better judgment and it was done badly by an ill trained nurse and I was left with permanent neuropathy and later IBS because of the strain on my body and the anxiety.

Nerve drugs can make it very difficult to lose weight because they can increase your appetite. No wonder your diet has not helped you lose weight. I'm afraid to say, all of these drugs can work against you.

I HAVE BEEN ON GABAPENTIN which is a nerve drug similar to lyrics. It is a terrible drug and has made me worse. Blurred vision, nerves shooting all over my body. Increase heart rate. Gained weight from edema. Caused sever depression. Trying to get off it is very difficult. My body is very hot like I am on fire at night. Had to change doctors who finally said get off it. I have nerve pain in my lower back.

      Thanks for your reply, Connie.

I am weaning off Lyrica now. I will stop it this Thursday. It never helped my nerve issues. I have been on a low carb diet for 10 weeks and gained 4 pounds! The neurologist does not believe this drug causes weight gain. Weight gain is one of the many side effects of Lyrica. I will not take any other nerve drug pill. Good luck!
