Has anyone had any experience with taking Lysine supplements to prevent/stop outbreaks? I've read good reviews so far

Not scientifically proven and leading HSV medical experts don't advocate it, so I wouldn't bother with lysine supplements or changing one's diet. Propolis (bee-produced resin) has shown promise in some studies, however. Might be more worthwhile looking into that, if anything.

Hate how site admin holds up posts, even those without swearing or links!

Anyway, wait for my first reply to be approved, but in short, science does not back up lysine supplements or any special HSV diet.

Hi FelisCatus, you are probably right, I have been following sort of lysine diet like less caffeine, hardly any wheat products, no chocolates and mainly alkaline diet but it hasn't helped me much.  I still have to take Vaclovir everyday (1 to 2 tabs) and find it retains fluid in my system even though I drink lot of water.

I get lot of pelvis/abdo pain, headaches and sore/burning vulva everyday, and blisters on and off, any comments re this.  I am a 64 yr old lady.

Is there anyone else out there with my symptoms?

      Any help would be appreciated.

      Thanks

I'm not going to change my diet but I don't think adding a lysine supplement can't hurt.

The brand Gia and the supplement Super Lysine Plus, I've heard amazing things about it!

Honestly, I've been reading SO many good reviews about lysine supplements for herpes and they are all good reviews. I'm going to try it

I take lysine supplements to offset any arginine in my diet. The science does seem to point to the virus needing arginine to replicate.   I agree with the comment -- it can't hurt!

And, I have to feel like I'm doing something, not nothing....

It's never been proven to have any real impact upon HSV in actual human studies, and I personally tend to side with research, but no harm in trying. There are certainly those who swear by it...

By the way, in case you are already eating a lysine-rich diet and also taking a lysine supplement, take care not to overdo it. Too much lysine apparently isn't so good for you.

I feel like I eat a mixture of lysine and arginine so maybe the lysine supplement will help cancel out the arginine I'm eating. Lord knows I'm not giving up chocolate! Lol!!

Lol, and I'm not giving up caffeine! I drink loads of English Breakfast Tea every day, then decaf herbal teas at night. Not going to change my diet either, since it's pretty balanced overall.

Besides lysine, read up on that bee resin I noted above. That *has* had success in studies (albeit with mice, but better than a test tube or petri dish!), plus it's all natural. Can be used topically or orally. That interests me more, tbh.

      Thanks FelisCatus.

Have you heard of older women with hsv2 having sympoms like mine, daily headaches, vulva and abdo/pelvis pain?  Still no antibodies either after contracting the virus nearly 12 months ago.  I have to take vaclovir on a daily basis, if I take any less than 1000mg, it flares up again.

Is there anyone else out there with my symptoms?

I have read that there may be a genetic reason as to why some people suffer worse from genital herpes than others. For some older women, menopause may also be an issue.

For expert advice, you can submit questions to Terri Warren at Westover Heights. WH is a reputable STD clinic in the US and Terri has a lot of experience specifically with HSV. There is a nominal fee for questions, but she will answer you directly via the Q&A forum. Perhaps you could seek her expert advice?

Where can I get this because I have been on acyclovir 400 mg 3 times a day its for a week and I am on my 3rd day my friend said I would feel instantly better my body aches have subsided but it actually feels worse in my private area. I wanna feel better and normal again. I so wish this man/ friend told me. I seen my counselor today because I am on the verge of just ending my life

The first week is worse, but things will start to feel better during the second, and should be normal by the third. Just keep taking your meds, drink lots of water/fluids, and pour water down there while you pee to ease any burning/stinging.

You can also try applying diluted tea tree oil all over your private parts to provide soothing relief from any itching. Also, soaking in Epsom bath salts is highly recommended by many here. Not tried it myself yet.
