Maddox rod effect after YAG

Posted , 4 users are following.

Hi,

I'm a couple hours after YAG capsulotomy.

My vision is fine, however, I developed a maddox rod effect, e.g. one diagonal line from left to right over every spot light.

My surgon said shortly after YAG that he checked twice and no pitting was done to the IOL

Any ideas what it could be? Cornea?

probably the capsule flap is visible. did your vision clear up after the yag?

    any improvements to the PD?

My PCO was veeeeeery bad so the difference is huge. Like from nothing to everything. It kept clearing up for a couple of mintues after the procedure. I cannot really comment on the PD, as I noticed it's obviously still there, but the onset is, let's say, delayed. In other words, the pupil is probably less reactive but I'm on some drops now so it is hard to say.

I have had a YAG done on both eyes. Before the YAG I did not have starbursts, but after the YAG I do. Like soks says it could be part of the capsule that is catching the light and creating the Maddox Rod effect.

Thanks guys for your comments. I don't think it's a capsule flap because it's there even with mini pupil during the daytime. So it must be something right in the middle of visual axis what makes me think that it might be, unfortunatelly, IOL pitting.

If you're only a couple hours after the capsulotomy, it could be in part that your eyes are still dilated. I had significant starbursts right after (didn't have them before) that were worst when my eye was dilated, although they didn't go completely away for some time. I'm about 6 weeks out they've gradually faded away. I still get small starbursts every once in a long while if I look directly at a bright light (like an LED flood light, but not a soft-white type bulb), but not often and not bad. I had more dryness in the eye after the procedure and that has also gotten much better; don't know if the two are related. I do have a small area of foggy halo around the very bright light now if I look right into it that I didn't have before, but it is well worth it for the improvement in vision.

It's been 18 h since then (the next day after a night) and still the same.

So it did improve with time in your case, right?

Mine did improve, but it was slow (weeks!) and it still seems to be getting better. I didn't have a fixed line--I had a starburst that would appear, slowly rotate, then wink out. Now I'll go for days at a time without noticing it. Also, for my eyes it took a good day or so for the dilation to completely go away.

I'm not sure that the most recent improvement has to do with the YAG or treatment I'm getting for macular edema, but I didn't see the starburst before the YAG and my edema was worse then than it is now.

Thanks, got it. In my case I'm afraid it might be iol pitting as the line is very stable, geometrical and appears regardless of pupil size, even very small. So I don't think it's a capsule remanent since there is no capsule left there.

I started thinking that the surgeon has lied to me about no-pitts.
