Magnesium?

I posted this earlier, and am not sure I did it correctly, so here goes again. Can someone advise me please what type of Magnesium Supplement and what strength to take. I take Beta- blockers, and ramipril, and have been told that Magnesium needs to be in balance, so it doesn't have an adverse effect on the heart. Thank you.

You did Catherine - the site had a problem over the weekend and people weren't getting notifications!
Here's what I wrote there:
"I doubt it in the sort of doses you'll get from the chemist! They sell it in the supermarkets here - in a country where you can't buy paracetamol except from the pharmacy! I take betablockers and an angiotension II inhibitor, magnesium isn't a problem."
You have a couple of other replies there too.

Hi Catherine. I take Magnesium Oxide on the advice of my neurologist. I buy the 400 mg uncoated tablets online and take 3 per day. I started at 800 mg, but increased it to 1200 a few months ago to help with my migraines.
Beware though if you've never taken Magnesium. You may find yourself in the bathroom more than usual because it can cause your intestines to work over time. Your system should eventually calm down.
I wish you success with your new supplement!

Magnesium needs to be in balance with calcium. As the body naturally rids itself of excess magnesium it's hard to get an overdose. If the first kind you try doesn't agree with you, try another kind. I now enjoy soaking in an epsom salt bath every once in a while, one less pill to take!

My G.P. told me they don't test for magnesium deficiency anymore, and I am unable to eat green vegitables or fruit as I have bowel problems, anyway I have started taking it on the advice I received from people here.
