Magnesium supplement is making my PMS worse!

Hi guys!
I am a 26 year old female who has been battling low mood and anxiety for a long time.
I won't get into all the specifics as we would be here a long time, but basically I have experienced extreme mood swings and high states of anxiety, on and off ,throughout most of my teenage years and into adulthood. It has affected relationships, destroyed friendships and interfered with work life. I have for many years been back and forth to the doctor who prescribed anti-depressants and I basically just accepted the fact I had depression. I have taken the tablets for years and sure.. they improved my mood on the whole but I would still suffer the mood swings.
Last year (2017) was a particularly rough year for reasons I won't divulge. I got sent to see the Psychiatric team to be assessed for bipolar as the mood swings were becoming more extreme and intolerable for me. However, based on the information I gave them, it was concluded that I do not have bipolar. I was relieved but still left wondering what was wrong with me.
At the start of 2018, I some what took matters into my own hands as I had lost faith in Doctors. I have always been active and sporty but at this particular time wasn't doing much exercise so I joined a gym. It gave me focus and the ability to alleviate stress as well as improving my physical appearance of course. I basically started eating a little cleaner and exercising regularly which 100% helps but I was still experiencing mood swings which would affect my training. I would be super motivated and feeling great for a couple of weeks and then everything would come grinding to a halt as I felt myself slipping back into a depressed state of mind (sometimes suicidal) with no motivation, craving sugar like a mad woman, angry with everyone and myself etc...
About a month ago, I started doing some of my own research. Baring in my mind that I have never been a studious person and hated any kind of revision at school or heavy reading. Not because I am not capable but I guess I am just more practically minded.
I had realised at this point that my mood swings coincided with my menstrual cycle as I had been making a mental/written note of each time my mood would change and at what stage in my cycle I was at. It's clear that when I feel good and everything is great that I am in the 2 week follicular phase and the other 2 weeks are the luteal phase. ( I had researched these phases.) I couldn't believe I hadn't realised this before. It was like a eureka moment!
Long story short... I started taking a Magnesium supplement. I saw them on Amazon and was astounded at how many of the reviews from women said they felt 100% better on them and how they had done wonders for their mood swings and anxiety. I am usually pretty skeptical when it comes to online reviews but I was so intrigued that I decided to purchase some. The brand name is ' Wassen We Support Monthly Cycle.'
I have been on them for a little over a month now and the reviews were certainly not lying! I have never felt so level and calm in my entire life. I still get the common PMS symptoms which most women experience. However, they are not so extreme to the point where I can't function and I am no longer fighting the anxiety I had before where I could not even look someone in the eye or hold a conversation.
So it is established that the mental effects of taking Magnesium has been an absolute life changer for me. However, the physical symptoms I have been getting haven't reflected what my research has shown. I have noticed since taken these tablets that I get extremely hot the week leading up to my period. It almost feels as if there is a fire burning inside of me. I also have been suffering with water retention quite badly. In a week I have put on 2.5kg without drastically changing my diet or exercise routine. ( I have fallen off the wagon slightly but nothing to warrant that amount of weight gain and fat isn’t gained that quickly anyway.) I have noticed a white jelly like discharge and my vagina seems swollen. Lastly, my period was a week early since starting these and now it appears to be a couple days late.
I am a little perplexed by these physical changes as it seems contradictory to what I have read. I cannot find anything saying that Magnesium makes PMS worse, only that it improves things, especially water retention. I have luckily never suffered terribly with the physical symptoms of PMS and I am reluctant to continue taking these tablets if I keep experiencing these symptoms despite what miracles they seem to have achieved for my mental state.
I am hoping that some women out there will see this and will have experienced the same as me!? If so, what progress have you made and what do you recommend I do!?
Thank you for taking the time to read and I look forward to responses.

Hi Lynne,
I know you feel a little perplexed at what seems like a huge change to your cycle but, I'd say maybe give them a little longer? It takes the body a good couple of months to accept new things. I have always experienced discharge sometimes and I'm twice your age so i wouldn't see that as an issue and sometimes my period has been earlier and then later, again this i wouldn't see as an issue.
The getting hot and weight gain maybe completely independent of the magnesium. I'm not medically trained and wonder if seeing a doctor may help to put your mind at rest?

Hi Lynne
I struggled throughout my twenties with terrible symptoms of pms. I dreaded it every month to the extent that I thought I couldn’t take anymore. It wasn’t the days before, it was on the day. I couldn’t stop vomiting, had diarrhoea, the pains in my stomach were excruciating 😖, the sweat was poring from my head, it lasted most of the day, I couldn’t do anything, I would collapse sometimes, once it wore off I would fall asleep, I was exhausted. I decided I had to do something about it and went to a naturopath, he tried me with a German remedy, can’t remember the name of it, but it didn’t work, I felt like it was affecting my hormones in a bad way, he then gave me Agnes Castus. Wow! Absolutely fantastic, periods went back to normal, I am now 49 and never had a bad one since. The naturopath said it was hormone related, he was spot on. You can get this on amazon, it works wonders, hope it works for you. 👌😁
