Magnesium "tolerance" buildup?
Posted , 9 users are following.
Because I was bothered by RLS (Restless Leg Syndrome), I started taking magnesium. And because my GI tract is rather delicate and all the stories about upset stomachs were scary, I obtained a "time release" formulation. It worked, the charley horses and involuntary movements went away.
BUT after a few weeks of bliss, I found I needed increasing doses of magnesium just to stay even. And if I missed just one dose, the symptoms were as prominent as before. (And even worse, I've now got general muscle aches and pains that weren't there before.)
What could be going on?

I'm a neuro student (kindagarden stage) in my 2012 MND studies, ALS patients did use dopamine precursors L-phenylalanine, and L-tyrosine (dietary supplements.) I don't recall the improvement scales but must have been some for it to stick in my mind.
gabapentin like your magnesium excerbated their condition...
With a sensitive stomach, maybe you can (if not already) find entric coated?
I'd first pass this by your "neuro..get their take...." (in spite of PALS saying most of them haven't a clue)........

I had something like restless leg, and mostly stemming from digestive issues. It later become a head ache and other pains.
I recommend probiotics, low/moderate fiber, and bone broths daily. This is from the GAPs diet, read into it and talk to your doctor or a qualified nutritionist

I'll just eloborate some..
.re establishing good micro
flora takes some time (can accelerate via FMT). Getting the right kind of probiotics into the lower 3 compartments needs help...some of course are acid tolerant but some are not...they need oligosacharides as chaperones...the probiotic can attach to them and get escorted thru the harsh acids...next is "numbers" means everything...the colon residents are in the "trillions"...the shime has demonstrated intermittant feedings (inoculation) of the probiotics fare better than a large single dose, and adding lactase, lactose, or soy isolate potentiates the process.
Coated probiotics may be OK but when any of these prebiotics like psylium husk/jerusalem antichoke/yakon root can provide safe travel, they also boost the number of good bacteria. And since they contain inulin (gas producing) more is not better...
Keep up the good advice teach...

Likewise i thought i'd try magnesium....great for getting the bowels going with added vit c orally. HOWEVER i sometimes bathed in a couple of tbsps of mag and then when i didn't the odd incidences of cramp i had had intensified.
I wondered if this was due to depletion in mag at the core as it were ...but is it stored in the body?
Maybe body wants more...but its made me nervous about taking cos any omissions had vicious consequences.
But could it be a calcium/mag imbalance? maybe i'm mostly balanced and shouldn't mess with it?
What about testing? Is there a way to see if we're balanced or deficient?
