Congratulations Ginny i am nearing 6 weeks mark wondering when can j do the same . Just wondering did you wait for the surgeon for you to assess before you tried going this. If so did you bend forward to tie your lace?

      Meena,

An easy way to tie your shoes and reach your toes is to bend the knee outward bringing your foot up and reach in between the legs. My doctor told me bringing the knee up to the chest can cause a dislocation so be careful and move slowly.

Well done Ginny! I'm 6 weeks post op and was actually looking at buying elasticated laces yesterday! Think I will just be patient and hopefully in a couple of weeks I will be able to do my own too.

Well done Ginny, I know exactly what you mean, every time you manage to do something else you haven't been able to do, its a major high and emotional, I felt the same when I had a shower, slept through the night, walked up the path, all normal things to anyone else but with what we've been through, its huge. Congratulations onwards and upwards.

It's amazing to me how the "little" things i took for granted before are such and award winning achievement now.  haha.  It feels good nontheless.  Not that i am comparing myself to a aperson who had a limb removed, but i now can see the struggle in a small way.  how they manage to get up to move is completely incredible to me.  I beleive this experieince has humbled me a bit.

Congratulations Ginny.  I was about 8 weeks post op as well when I was able to do mine.  I waited until I had my 7 week assessment before I tried.  It feels wonderful doesn't it.

Well done! I've just joined the waiting list to have mine done, I can't wait to be able to pit my shoes and socks on without pain 😊

I just want to try and clarify how i am putting sneakers on.  i sit on the bed, scootch back a little, have leg bent where right foot is towards left knee then put on and tie.  i am NOT bending over and i am NOT putting leg/knee towards chest.  More like a clam shell leg.  I hope this makes sense to everyone.

    Hi Ginny,

Thankyou for your advice. Will do it that way myself when I'm further down the road in recovery and mobility. Great if you can add further events to update us.

    Best wishes.
