Manual Breathing turned into Breathing Pattern Disorder

Hi All,

I have generalized anxiety disorder and I have had times when I would breath manually. A lot of people with anxiety and OCD have experienced this. These episodes of manual breathing would come and go but recently It stayed for a while to the point it changed my breathing pattern. After a few months, the manual breathing stopped but I have developed what's called breathing pattern disorder and/or constant hyperventilation.

I have had this for a couple of months now and it's frustrating. The symptoms are shortness of breath, tingly feelings in hands and feet, tight chest, chest pain, headaches etc. All these symptoms are due to the reduced level of CO2 in my blood since I constantly hyperventilate.

Please share if you have had a similar issue and what helped you get over it if possible.

Thanks,

yes I have had that happen. What helped me a lot was to learn proper breathing for anxiety. It really calms everything down. I find these short talks or meditations on YouTube. You can search for mindfulness breathing exercises or just breathing exercises for relaxation.

when you breathe properly, you are getting the correct amount of oxygen and you won’t deplete the carbon dioxide. there’s a really good one for panic that is called stop panic attacks now. then you scroll down to one called don’t panic. It’s in Black bold letters. it really gets your breathing under control and you feel really relaxed. hope you feel better
