Manual manipulation by physio

Has anyone had this done please? If so what does it entail  and how painful it is please. I don’t know if I need to book this on a Friday night to ensure I’m not at work for a couple of days after.

    Hi.

I had what's called a manipulation under anesthesia which was performed by my ortho surgeon on an outpatient basis in the hospital.

I am not sure if we are speaking about the same thing and if so don't think I would have wanted it done without anesthesia considering how much he bent my knee. ( He sent me a photo afterwards 😊wink

Immediately after the procedure I was in horrible pain which eventually subsided. Later that day and for the next 5 days I had to go to PT daily to maintain the increased bend from the manipulation.

I would schedule on a Friday so you can "rest" for a couple of days before returning to work.

Please note that everyone's pain tolerance is different so you may be absolutely fine and able to go right back to work the day after.

Hi thank you for your reply, I thought this initially but apparently it’s not. I can bend 125 but only straighten -15 so I don’t know what he is going to do.

When I go for my Physio visits, what she does... I call manipulation.  She massages the scar area of my knee.  Then I sit on the table which she has raised up higher... she sits on a small stool on the floor.  She pulls my leg down and back under the table encouraging the bend.   It’s not pleasant but not horrific either.  Once done I get TENS and ice and it actually does feel better!  Not sure if that ids what will happen with you but good Luck!

Thank you very much for the information. I’m hoping it’s something like that. He deep massaged the knee three weeks after surgery oh dear oh dear was that painful and very painful that night but the next day much better.

Try this, sit down put your leg on small stool/coffee table that sort of thing get yourself a set of oven gloves put a weight in either side ie a tin of something or a little weight then place the oven glove over  the top of your knee and leave it for a long as you can, keep doing this daily and you will find it will help considerably in straightening your leg,it deffo works.
