Manuka honey

Hi All,

Cannot find where I found info on Manuka Honey now, so can anyone tell me what its special for?

I believe its something to do with the immune system?

How much do you take of it? Spread on toast or spoonful or what?

And yes I did buy it at Aldi's, 3.99, it was plus 10 too.

Thanks everyone.

Amycakes.

    Hi Amycakes

Manuka honey has many health benefits including, as you say, helping to boost the immune system. It is also good for protecting the stomach and esophagus from digestive problems.

I have taken one teaspoon of UMF 10+ daily for years - I have to really restrict myself because I love it so much I could eat tablespoonfuls of it! I add it to my muesli, yoghurt and chopped apple for breakfast.

The only downfall is the price. When I researched it some years ago, I found that the symbol \"UMF\" stands for Unique Manuka Factor and this guarantees the beneficial anti-bacterial quality of the honey. However this guarantee does mean that it is very expensive. I buy it from H&B and it is £16+ a jar but I always buy a stock when they have it on offer such as \"buy 2 get 1 free\".

Unfortunately, the jar you have found at Aldi's for £3.99 probably does not bear this symbol so therefore the anti-bacterial quality of 10+ is not guaranteed.

Hope this helps, Amycakes, but, most of all, hope you're having a good day . :D

Like you Mrs O have used Manuka honey for years for the same reasons...... add a teaspoon to my porridge!

I had been buying the very expensive UMF10+ from my health Food Shop and then Boots had a special offer on some about a year ago so I started buying it there and now Waitrose is including it...... still expensive but I also realised without the UMF verification...how stupid am I?????

So tomorrow back to the health food shop for the expensive GOOD stuff :?

    Thanks MrsO, much appreciated.

What a shame the Aldi one is not the best, just my luck, my daughter in New Zealand says it is very expensive there too, & thats where it comes from!

Never mind shall have to go to H&B when they have their offers.

Not such a good day today, but resting & hoping tomorrow will be better

    Take care.
