Manuka Honey - help!

Posted , 9 users are following.

I ordered some Manuka Honey 24+ as recommended on some of the threads here. What is the best method to use it? I have had no relief with wet ones (my symptoms get worse with it) so want to try this route. I mainly just get some crustys/discharge in the corners of my eyes and occasionally a little flakes near he lids (mainly only when my eyes water a lot). I also have a bump on my worse eye lid on the top. The ophthalmologist I saw was no help and only said it would “go away with time” and told me to keep doing what I was doing...warm compresses and washing with baby shampoo. He didn’t even tell me what type of Blepharitis I have so I’m trying to figure it out on my own. I’m going nuts with Blepharitis! I am trying anything possible. Thank you!

I can’t help with regards to the honey as never used it myself.

The crusting you describe is anterior blepharitis. The lump is a symptom of posterior blepharitis/meibomiam gland dysfunction.

The lumps are known as chalazions. They form due to blockages in the tiny holes along your lash line, and/or due to poor quality/thick oils being produced. A hot compress works really well for this. Search on amazon “eye doctor heat bag”.  Twice a day, 8-10 minutes on your face each time. Some of the well established chalazions never seem to go, but the newer more sensitive ones react REALLY well to the treatment smile

I also used omega 3 tablets to help improve my oil production. I think it helped a fair bit.

    Good luck!

The Wet Ones treatment takes time...don’t throw them awY.  They will be useful for maintenance once you get a handle on your symptoms.

I never tried the honey BUT did try ans still do add a few drops of tea teee oil to a dab of baby shampoo which definitely works to lill bacteria. I also take one tablespoon of aple cider vinegar to balance and maintain my gut flora which is important with bleph when irs not just caused by rosscea or excessive dandruff. If its not topical - anterior bleph, then it is interior - gut flora.

Do not despair. From the symptoms you describe, it coukd be much worse. Believe me. If/when you are not using the honey - try the tea tree oil a m and p m. Use the Wet Ones in between. Don’t rinse.

    Good luck.

What’s your cleaning method with the wet ones? How long? Gentle? How many times do you go back and forth? How long do wait until you open your eyes? Etc. thank you.

My son has dry eyes & plepharitis which he has been trying to manage over some time. He has found a practitioner/clinic who/which specialises in this area. My son is happy with progress made in relation to his condition. Although the process has been costly he feels it has made a huge difference. Individual Results will obviously vary . This clinic is based in Melbourne Australia. If you like I can obtain the contact details ?

    Hi Starmile83,

I wrote in a thread on this site entitled,  "Using Manuka Honey to Cure Blepharitis."  It tells of my experience using honey to cure my blepharitis completely.  There are detailed instructions and much comment.  I hope this helps!

This is what I do. First I wash my eyes with no tears baby shampoo, then apply moisterizer to my fac e. Put a little sterilized water in the Manuka honey, then dip in a CLEAN q-tip. I never put a used q-tip in my clean honey. Apply the honey around the inside of your eyelids. This will burn, eyes will tear and get red, this is no problem at all, it will not hurt yours in any way. Do this three times a day. Sometimes I use Systane eye drops, no preseratives . I love Manuka honey, - it taste good too!
