Many symptoms and I can't get answers please help....

I am a 35 year old woman, a mother and work full time running a business (this is not stress related I love my work).

I have been suffering with many symptoms and actually can't remember a day since my late 20's without pain and feeling ill.

Over the past 3 years I have have 2 major surgeries on the bones in one of my feet but thats the least of my problems.

I'm obese and over a 2-3 year period I lost 5 1/2 stone very gradual and sensibly (eating little and often healthy food and exercise where possible between my foot ops).

I have however put a lot of it back on as I have been suffering for the past year with what I can only describe as sugar lows (feeling shaky, sick, headache, fuzzy head and at times I have fainted) and I often get this an hour after eating and between meals.

I try ignore it, I especially notice as it stops me working I feel so bad but the only thing that helps it is eating something sugary like a biscuit (I have experimented with different foods such as fruit, yoghurt, savoury but its refined sugar rubbish such as biscuits that help it) - hence why I am putting weight back on as I'm having to eat when I really don't want to!

I have been recently seen by an endocrinologist and had fasting GT and had a machine fitted to stomach to monitor glucose levels and shockingly they were in normal range! I don't get it!

I am also suffering a very achy body ( a feeling like flu) which doesn't help with all surgery on foot bones and recently had cortisone injection in wrist for carpel tunnel and DeQuervains synotivitis (sp) which thank fully that has helped a little. There just doesn't seem to be a part of me that doesn't ache and hurt which is not normal for someone my age.

Other medical history is I have PCOS (I have very irregular periods which have become worse over past few years), previous gallbladder removal surgery and also have had raised liver levels for a few years but not enough for GP to take any further as it settled on last blood test.

I have tried the 'mind over matter' approach, taken time off work, tried relaxing therapies and accupuncture but nothing works! I sound like a hypochondriac lol!! But I am so fed up of feeling eat from what I thought were sugar lows, constant aching body (which is so severe towards the end of the day I can't hardly walk), headaches etc.

I have never been on these forums before but I am desperate for suggestions - I need to get my life back for my childrens and husbands sake as its really getting to me and I've got to the point where I am suffering in silence for their sake.

I would really appreciate some help and suggestions.

You don't say if you are taking any medication, that could cause side effects. Do you remember if the pain symptoms started suddenly or over time?

Hi no I am not taking any medication and I try keep off pain meds but some days am having to take paracetomal for the pain.

The endocrinologist was talking about putting me on metformin to try help control the symptoms of PCOS.

It didn't start suddenly - its been a gradual process but I'm 35 and can not rememeber a single day since around 30/late twenties without pain, aching and generally feeling unwell.

    Hi,

having read your descriptions of the symptoms you experienceI have a couple of suggestions.

I think you might have candida (please read up what this entails on the internet).

I think this is why you are craving for sugary snacks.

The candida would also explain all your other symptoms.

Regarding the calpal tunnel symdrome: I had this really bad a few years back and came across an article suggesting taking Vitamin B6 and this got rid of my calpal tunnel symdrome completely.

Thank you I will look that up. The cortison injection has helped for the carpel tunnel but I'm aware that its only masking the pain  - I did try accupuncture for it too and other symptoms but that didn't help.

I've never heard of Candida but after briefly looking at it something else stands out about it - intolerances.

I have suddenly this year become intolerant to alcohol ( I beleive it could be the preservatives and sulphites rather than the actual alcohol) - this is something I have spoken to my dr about who confirmed it.

When I drink (could be wine, beer etc) my face burns, I feel terrible then I have a bad stomach for days afterwards - interesting that it mentions these intolerances about candida.

Candida is a type of yeast which could be a reason for alcohol intolerance. It is also associated with autoimmune diseases. Check the symptoms of Hashimoto's disease on Google which does have some of your symptoms. There seem to be dozens of autoimmune diseases nowadays, I was diagnosed with pmr earlier this year, another autoimmune disease, and one of the symptoms was carpal tunnel pain. My GP never diagnosed the pmr and told me I had a virus which would go away! In the end I went to see someone privately.

Hi ptolemy sorry to hear what you have gone through. I have battled with the drs over my symptons and although they have looked into many of the symptons they treat each thing individually but its very obvious to me living with it that there is too much going on - especially for my age.

I have had my thyroid tested I believe it was this year and all was fine with my thyroid levels.

Hi, just wondered if you had your thyroid checked when you saw the endocrinologist. An underactive thyroid can cause fatigue, carpal tunnel syndrome, period problems and more.

Hi Merryl yes all was ok with my throid levels  - I think I was tested for that this year. I have had the throid levels tested a few times over the years mainly due to my weight issues that I have had.

Hi, Your blood test was probably normal then. I was diagnosed with hypothyroid about 3 years ago, so thought I would mention it just incase.  Hope you find out what is wrong soon, it is frustrating not knowing what the cause is.
