Many Thanks to you All

I very much appreciate the responses received regarding the drug mentioned.  Have to say that I find it all very disturbing.  I have tried to get the medics to find out what the cause is of my symptoms but feel that in my area one is just written off after a certain age

I find that really disturbing. Age discrimination has no place in the NHS. You haven't said how old you are and I will not ask because as far as I am concerned, and I'm a nurse, age is just a number. Everyone should be treated the same. I am really saddened by your comments.

I am only 64, worked for 45 years and only retired four years ago so yes, I too am saddened.  Have no idea where to go next to find out what is wrong. The consultant said I should be pleased the MRI scan did not show anything nasty and and ' for a woman of your age your back looks good'. He also said that he could not wave a magic wand and there was nothing he can do! I said that I was not expecting to, just tell me how I find out what is wrong with me.

You have a right as an NHS patient to request a second opinion. Your GP cannot refuse this. If he does write to your local health trust.

Hi Pitts, just wondering if that consultant was a surgeon? Sounds so similar to what I was told initially. If there is nothing operable surgeons are at a loss with the patient left at sea. Yes I think a second oppinion is warranted but please do not discount a pain specialist.
