No one ever told me to massage my scar. It seems fine after 8 months...What is the purpose of the massage?

the physio at hospital told me how to massage it . Apparently its to stop it adhering break up tissue fibers and keep it supple.

not sure for how long but three times a day said to massage first without cream then use cream after . Ive been using E45 after advice from another forum user ( thanks again ) . Eight weeks post of it seems to be doing the job just have a small area thats still a bit raised . Hope this helps .

I was never advised either re massage. My scar after operation last June is barely visible ! 😃

I was the same, didn't massage my scar at all, and it's barely visible....

My Consultant suggested massaging it daily with Bio Oil, as it 's a bit lumpy at the lower end. I do sometimes forget, but the scar is fading and becoming smoother. I did nothing to my previous THR scar on my other hip, and that faded until you could hardly notice it within the year. It'll be interesting to see whether my most recent new hip scar ends up any different!
