Massive spike in blood pressure on Gabapentin - coincidence?

Posted , 2 users are following.

I have recently been prescribed Gabapentin (300mg x3 per day) for nerve pain following surgery.

I took my blood pressure and noticed it was almost in hypertensive crisis! Before Gabapentin it was fairly normal.

What confuses me is that an increase in blood pressure does not appear to be a notable side effect of Gabapentin from what I have read. I am not sure what else could be causing it. I guess if it isn't Gabapentin it could be anxiety or uncomfortableness from nerve pain, or something else to do with the surgery and the impact upon my lifestyle, but it seems a coincidence that it happens when I start Gabapentin.

I have reduced to 300mg x2 per day and hope to get down to 300mg x1 per day.
