Mattress for grandmother

Posted , 2 users are following.

Hi guys ,please help me. My grandmother is 80 and has just been diagnosed with Osteoporosis. I have heard that mattresses that are too old may well cause back pain ,body pain etc. So do I need to replace her mattress? She is using the same for the last 10 years . If yes ,please suggest the type of mattress and the best showroom preferably  in Canada .

Thanks in advance.

Hi Teddy!  I can't help you re showrooms in Canada (I live in Germany)! However, it is recommended that EVERYONE should replace a mattress every 10 years.

Also Osteoporosis doesn't usually 'hurt'.  I should imagine your grandmother is suffering from some sort of other arthritis.  Unfortunately, the only things that seem to help are pain killers.

I can't recommend a showroom to you, although I know there are several large reputable vendors in the country.  Why not ask around in your circle for local recommendations?  Once you get to the showroom if the staff have had the right training they should be able to guide you to the type of matress that should help an older person with back problems.  After you've narrowed down the choices would your grandmother be able to accompany you to the store to make the final decision?  Good for you helping her out like this!

No, but as we don't buy mattresses that often that doesn't mean anything.  I bet there's a website that will give you some ideas what to look for.  Also, do you have access to consumers reports?  My public library has a subscription and all I need to view it at home is my library card number.  And comments on vendor's sites are sometimes helpful, at least they give you an idea what kinds of questions to ask.
