I was told this morning I would be getting a sedative - I had the IV put in at 8:00am and the procedure at 10:45am. When they shot the back of my throat with the spray to stop the gag reflex I almost got sick, then they proceded to scope my throat - I could not speak for the strap that was in my mouth did not allow me to. I was freaking out trying to say-----why have you not given me a sedative??????? They stuck the scope down my throat and I was gagging and dry heaving like crazy - I have a call into my family doctor and I better get some answers.

My throat is extremely sore and I am p____d right off.

Be very careful and demand a sedative and make sure that your throat is numb before they touch you :x sad

[i:4d7a35d483][/size:4d7a35d483] Well thanks for that Guest - I am to have this proceedure done this coming Saturday. Totally terrified to say the least, Coming on here to read other people's experiences trying to allay my own fear's only to stumble across the post you left. Shouldn't you have said nothing instead of putting scare tactics into other's? Yeah I can understand how horrible this experience must have been for you - But I certainly won't be able to sleep between now and Sat after reading what I have!!! Now Im freaking out!!!

Some people are so bloody thoughtless! :cross: [/i:4d7a35d483]

You shouldnt worry about it [b:2be9deb9f0]DMcC[/b:2be9deb9f0] theres really nothing to it, all of these strong feelings (gagging, retching, air blasting out) are harmless smile

[/size:2a7aba5d7f][i:2a7aba5d7f] Thankyou Dr_Spock for the reassurances - I am so frightened of this proceedure - to be honest Im not sure which is scaring me the most - The camera going down or the results coming back - We have a family history of stomach cancer and osphageal ( spelling ) cancer - So as you can imagine Im regarded as High Risk - I just dread the whole thing - But I guess at least someone will get to the bottom of my stomach problems and put a name to whatever this is - I have been diagnosed with HP an had the triple therapy treatment - from here on in it's a waiting game - Thanks again [/i:2a7aba5d7f]

Ive had loads of them and Ive never had the sedative, just ignore the uncomfortable feelings and concentrate on your breathing (and watching whats going on on TV). Even taking biopsies is painless (depends where, it might make you say ouch) you should just feel sharp tugs smile

[b:0c5fa8ad51][i:0c5fa8ad51] Hi, well I had my Endscopy done on the 7/6/08 and it wasn't exactly a fun day out - I was a chicken and took the sedation as I was freaking out so much - That Banana spray has to be the vilest foulest taking thing ever!! Proceedure took exactly 30 mins.

    Findings were as follows

Oesophagus a small 5cm sliding haitus hernia was apparent

Stomach..Mild flat erosive gastritis involving the prepyloric region was observed..

Duodenum...Mild patchy erythematous bulbar duodenitis was evident

Now all I need is someone to explain what the hell all that means - and do I have something to worry about??

    Thanks[/i:0c5fa8ad51][/b:0c5fa8ad51]

It means you have absolutely nothing to worry about, a few weeks of medicine should sort out any discomfort you are feeling smile

[b:950a3a293c]If you had both sedation and throat spray you were lucky where i had it done in leeds i opted for sedation which didn't work , but if you opt for that you don't get he throat spray its one or the other and if it doesn't work tough luck!!! so as you can imagine i felt the tube going down and gagged all the way through. Never again I could have pulled the tube out and jumped off the table.[/b:950a3a293c]
