MD Without aural fullness - is this possibe ??

Hi there. I have been diagnosed (?) with probable cochlear hydrops. I have bouts of fluctuating low tone hearing loss accompanied by flare ups ( a kind of sound reactive semi-physical tinnitus in the affected ear.) These flare ups last for anything from one day to eight days and I might get one week or so before the next one starts. I have never really had vertigo (have had a few short "almost" bouts) and never had aural fullness. I find these flare ups VERY distracting. I also get weird feelings in my head. I permanently have high pitch tinnitus in both ears, a whirring deep in my head and a sort of ringing in my left ear. I have had this for 8 months now.
I take Serc 16 x 3 per day. I am told serc doesn't improve aural fullness so it cant be the Serc keeping it at bay..
Can anyone else relate to this ??
PS By the way, there is a very useful on-line hearing test where you can monitor your hearing and print your own audiograms - its called hearingtest.online. You can independently check each ear. I use the alternate low and high tones to get a super accurate audiogram. You will need some decent headphones

Hi Ponx. Your symptoms do not sound like typical Meniere's Disease. Sounds like you have something else going on. MD symptoms are hearing loss in LOW decibel range, vertigo lasting at least 20 minutes and up to 24 hours, tinnitus and ear fullness. Now, it's possible that the Serc is "masking" some of these symptoms but you might have one of 30 or more inner/middle ear illnesses that are causing your symptoms. My recommendation is to see a neurotologist (ENT that has sub specialty in inner ear diseases) who can help you identify which one you have. Also, if you have not already had one you should have a professional hearing test from an audiologist who can tell you which range your hearing loss is in.

I was initially diagnosed with CHdrops and then over the course of a few months I started getting the vertigo swings. I am controlling MM through a restrictive low sodium diet and a combination of diuretics and betahistine. I also exercise regularly and wear a hearing aid. Try the conservative approach to the disease first particularly the diet. Most people think it’s just salt; however, sodium is found everywhere.
