Medical Acknowledgement of Possible Diet and HS Link

So, while I was stumbling around the internet today trying to find a plastic surgeon who specializes in reconstructive surgery for HS patients, because well, you know...I ran across this in the FAQ section of a website.

"2. Is HS affected by diet?

Some suffering from HS have said a change in diet helps, and many have tried the Paleo diet. However, restricting certain foods may affect people in different ways. Keeping a food diary to learn what works for you might be the best way to determine certain foods trigger an outbreak or worsening of symptoms."

This is the first and only time I have ever seen or heard an MD, let alone a surgeon acknowledge that there in fact could be a connection between HS and diet. My DO was the first doctor that was even willing to listen to the idea. Has anyone else encountered an MD or surgeon, specifically one who specializes in HS, who has been open to even just the possibility that HS can be triggered by certain food groups? Just Curious.

I went to a surgeon for an intestinal issue. Before she did the exam, I told her she would see scarring from my HS. I went on to tell her that cutting nightshades and peanuts put me in remission. She was very intrigued! She said she was going to tell another patient she had seen last week with HS and she was going to research it some more! She was very open to it.

The doctor who firsts proves food sensitivities causes HS would be famous in the medical field. Somebody needs to start up some tests and studies!

Absolutely. If I'd known about this connection 10 years ago, I could've saved myself a lot of money, blood and pain. When I think about how many times I missed school or work, or refused to go to the beach or pool, or even going on a date just because of my HS, I could just kick myself. I want to go back in time to my 14 year-old self and scream at her not to eat that pizza!

    Hi

I have suffered with stage 3 hs for 20 years now n see many specialist surgeons that have done major surgery n not one of them has said that there's a link with diet!

I've tried everything imaginable to get on top of my hs with no joy, I'm now having to seek out a specialist plastic surgeon because I've got to the end of the line with keep cutting them away. I now have to much scar tissues in my affected areas so I'm having to have skin grafts.

HS is a truly horrible n i would do anything not to have it......

my mum n my sister both suffer

Yeah, none of my doctors knew either! I learned about it on here! Unfortunately many doctors don't know about the food sensitivities link with HS because the findings are so new. Information is starting to come out slowly but surely though! Thankful we have sites like this to help each other!

No kidding. I just found out a few weeks ago that my Great-grandmother suffered from problems similar to mine for over 60 years. She'd get terrible boils underneath her breasts and arms. Apparently my Great-grandfather would lance them for her, but they always came back. I can't even imagine how horrible it was for her, and this was back before HS even had a name. I'm so grateful for the internet, and for websites like this.
