A very good morning to all
My question of the day is,have any of you invested in a medical
Bracelet or a dogtag???If any answers are yes what did you have
Inscribed on it???it would be a bit long-winded
To put hemochromatosis on either.
Also any yes answers where did you purchase it and how much did
It cost??I was in bulgaria in June and could have got a stainless steel
One for around £8 ,but I had not being diagnosed then, they are almost
Certain I have genetic, I will find out for certain shortly.
Anyone having phlebotomy today good luck, but all have a good day
Anyway.
Cheers Philx Birmingham England
PS it would be interesting to know where you all live,,one reply was
From America ,I just assumed it was an English forum???
In your replies can you put where you are from???

Hiya Phil. Mike here...Brentwood Essex!!
I've heard that some folk have a bracelet.....I won't be one of those. Wanna get on and live a normal life, with a few phlebs thrown in throughout the year and the odd blood test...then just forget about it. Wearing a tag or bracelet would just remind me of it every day, so I'll probably give it a miss.
My next phlebotomy is in 41 days time, with a blood test next Tuesday. It's such a luxury not going every week now....my veins are pretty shot to bits, and need some good recovery time. Does anyone have a good and bad arm? My left is perfect, a good pint every time. The right is a problem...slow flowing, sometimes no flow...very hit and miss, which means the left arm gets it all the time.
Anyway, have a good day one and all. How's the weather in Birmingham Phil? Beautiful day here in Essex, which is great as I'm a biker, and ride into London every day. Lovely day for it....

My favoured arm for taking blood is my right arm ,works every time
The can only get a smal vein in my left.
Mike as far as you know is this supposed to be a UK site only.
Not as though I mind just thought it was strange to get a reply from
America, but nice to see how for advanced they are than England.
Re weather sunny at this time, but how quickly things change.

Hi Phil. I think the site must be worldwide...as you say, there have been people from the states on here....let's see what other countries are represented over time.....

Hi Philx.
You can get rubber ID bracelets from the British Hemochromatosis Society. They cost about a fiver from the website shop but if you join the society, you get one included automatically in your welcome pack. They say "British Hemochromatosis Society" on them.
I am from Norfolk, about 20 miles from Norwich but way out in the sticks.
In reply to your previous post, I wouldn't have a problem with my blood being used to help students learn.
Have a good day, everyone.

Oh yeah...I joined the Society and was given a bracelet. I wore it all the time even in the shower. After a few months though, all the letters faded away! So, don't wear it in the shower!!

Two things I suppose...
Firstly, when people see it, they ask about it. Then that's your chance to tell them about the condition therefore letting more people know aboutit, and become aware.
Secondly, I think if you're ever in an accident, to prevent medics thjnkjng you're a drug user cos of the look of your battered veins, they'll see your bracelet and realise the battered veins are a result of our delightful weekly venesections.....that's my thoughts on the bracelet....
See ya..
Mike.

I'm from the States.
I got involved in this website after my brother's death and my diagnosis. It has been good for me because I don't have anyone else to talk to about this condition. Although it seems most participants are from either England or Canada it hasn't changed the symptoms of the condition. Treatment, however, may be a little different and I have relied on my hemotologist for her expert advice since she is quite knowledgeable and treats others with this condition.
I never considered a bracelet and don't think I'd be interested in wearing one.
Good luck to you.

Re tags or bracelets ,I thought it would be a good idea to have ,high
Iron levels along with other ailments,on either tag/or bracelet, so hospitals would have all info
To treat you fullly ,if for any chance you were taken ill and could not speak
For yourself
