Medication for IBS

Hi,

is it ok to take colpermin and menbeverine as part of the treatment for IBS?

    Mebeverine is a recognised treatment. But check the side effects. Also it may not work for you - doesn't appear to do much for me anyway.

    I use to take Colofac under doctor's instruction at the same time as Mebeverine, but I had to stop taking the peppermint oil (Colofac) as it gave me terrible stomach pains.  I took both tabs approx 40 mins before food as instructed, but if my meal was delayed this terrible stomach pain would start.  I've had no pain before a meal since stopping the Colofac.  

    Mebeverine has worked well for me for years but the dose of 3 per day made me very constipated and I had to reduce it to 2 per day.  This took away the constant pain of bloating for me.

    My doctor tells me that Mebeverine (a trade name as well as the ingredient) is now difficult to obtain and has put me on Colofac which I understand IS Mebeverine.

    Sorry.  Can't amend my previous reply.

    Please read Colpermin (NOT Colofac) in each case mentioned except for the final one!

    I wish we could amend mistakes on this forum!!!  It would make reading them less confusing!

      You've encapsulated my problem with Colofac; as I suffer from IBS-C anyway, anything that makes you constipated is not really helping. Not that I've found that it helps much anyway. Unfortunately Buscopan is not recommended for those of us with enlarged prostrates. You might try it though; I know people who say it helps them.
