MEDICATION FOR OVERACTIVE BLADDER

Posted , 5 users are following.

Hi all, I am on the waiting list for a rectocele & cystocele repair. I am on medication for an overactive bladder for which there is no other treatment. I have tried various tablets & patches and they all leave me with a very dry mouth & very sore, dry eyes which weep all the time. I also do not feel well at the same time. I wonder if anyone has been prescribed a medicine that does not give these awful side effects.I honestly feel 10 years older when on them. Thanks.

I presume jennie you have a prolapsed bladder if you're waiting for a cystocele repair?

I have a slight cystocele, the main problem is the rectocele and the Consultant said she may as well fix the cystocele at the same time. She is also going to check my womb & as I mentioned to Worried look in my bladder in case I have a stone. Thank you.

A stone is a possibility and there are other bladder problems that could account for your symptoms such as a narrow opening to the bladder. I'm pleased your consultant is dealing with everything in one operation.

      Good luck Jennie

Try cranberries or sugar free cran juice but check that it's free from asparteme.

Hi matron I've had an overactive bladder for years but ur since surgeon did dilation it's virtually stopped so this narrow opening could perhapsbethe problem. X

You're absolutely right jan and I'm pleased it helped you. I'm hoping that it's jennie' problem as well because it is fairly common. How long did you have an overactive bladder for?

Jan, I would be sooo pleased if the surgeon found this was my problem. Can you explain what the dilation involved please? Thanks, Jennie.

Hi matron more years than I can remember at least ten. Just used to take sodium citrate sachets they do help . The dilation has stopped it entirely. X

I think matron may explain it better, as I'm not completely sure wot they do exactly. But it's stopped mine entirely. X

Hi Matron,do you know what the op Jan had actually does? 'Dilation'? Jennie.

Jan, did you get the sachets on prescription or can you buy them over the counter? x

I do jennie and it's a simple procedure really. A long silver probe is inserted into the neck of the bladder and basically stretches it because it's muscle. They will use a tiny camera as well to have a look for any abnormalities, stones, lumps and bumps x
