Medication options?

Hi all, looking for some feedback/suggestion in regards to medication changes...

I was diagnosed with crohns about 15 years ago and have had 2 bowel resections. Last one was in 2009 and following that I was put on azathiopeine 150mg and since then I've done quite well with no major flare up's (scopes continue to show things are good).

I find however that my resistance to virus's/colds is low (I work in healthcare and do a lot of visits in people's homes and feel like I constantly get sick), I also find I'm tired and have achy joints.

I've reached a point where I want to discuss medication options with my doctor (visit next week) and am wondering if there are other medications I can explore with less side effects. The only other medication I was ever given was mesalazine prior to the resections.

Just wondering if anyone else has switched?

    Hi

Just wondering if you have had your vitamin levels checked for deficiencies? I have aching joints and tiredness and my vit d is very low also have low b12 folates and chronic iron deficiency anaemia

I can't take vitamin supplements as they worsen my symptoms but I do take a good probiotic called quest mega 8 biotix they help boost immunity as well as helping my gut. Vit D is also very important for immunity as well as iron. I'm sorry you probably know all this but thought I'd reply to try and help. Sorry can't help with your main question about the medication changes I'm still learning about managing crohn's after being diagnosed a year ago after many years of symptoms.

    Take care

Hi, I had a resection in 2013 and was on azathioprine, as I have been in remission since the op I have been off it for 6 months and see the gastroenterologist next week for a follow up and see if I have maintained a good blood test. I ended up on 50 mg and I work in a supermarket and didn't get sick apart from the odd cold. I still take B12 and Vit D, have a yearly flu jab and I had a booster inj of my childhood vaccinations as I read you are not immune for life. I can't say I felt any different on the meds or had a lot of sickness. Do you need to be on such a high dose, I think I have only been as high as 100 and 50 is a maintenance dose. Given you are progressing well or maybe you are progressing well because of the dosage...I would run any concerns by your doctor and see what he suggests, good luck!
