Hi Dannie, well you'll have to find one that's right for as they are all different..talk to your gp..my first was celexa and it messed me up bad with side effects...so I stayed away from all meds for several years..I just started taking ciprolex 2 days against a small dose and will gradually up it..it's only been 2 days but wait and see I guess how it goes. I do know some people have little to no side effects on this medication as I was reading a chart for all meds and there corresponding side effects..I also have larezopam which helps when I get an attack..againtalk with your doctor and see what's best for you...I will say though whatever your doctor tells you about any meds they give you..get advice from the pharmacist they know way more about the medication and best ways to take it..hope this helps and you find something that works for you

I've been on celexa for like for years now worked well for me but I built up a tolerance so now I'm switching to Prozac it's a smooth transition so far and Prozac is supposedly better at keeping out intrusive thoughts.

Medication effects everybody differently but some are often used for different kinds of anxiety.

Talk to your doctor I suggest trying an ssri before an snri because Ssris supposedly have the least side effects.

I like meditations that help you observe your thoughts and your self very helpful.

I have to be honest, not much helped me in terms of medication but we all respond very differently so for you medication could be ideal but when it comes to trying one it is impossible to say which would be best because again we are all different.

I firmly believe that even if a medication is found to be helpful therapy should always be added to it, a lot of people find therapy works better when they are settled on a helpful medication too, for me therapy alone has always been the real key.

I do take meds, in fact I take a heavy dose of benzos daily which is not ideal really, they are addictive and you get tolerant fast so I always advice very sporadical and short term use of those, use them on an 'as and when' emergency basis is my advice.

All meds have potential downsides, its just about weighing up what is worth taking a chance on, for physica symptoms a beta blocker can help as it will shut down adrenaline and take you out of fight or flight mode, for emotional symptoms an anti depressant is better although these take longer to start working and you may well need to experiment to find the right one whilst riding through some initial side effects, some of those side effects can be treated with short term benzo type meds though so the process is made a bit easier.

Personally I would research every option carefully and then get a medical opinion on whichever you think is the one you would like to try, you will obviously need a doctor to make sure it is safe and suitable and to issue a prescription too but researching a bit yourself can be useful as long as you remember that for every horror story about a med there will be a positive one too, it can be trial and error.

And once again please do head into therapy, even if you think you have had all of the therapy on offer it is always worth repeating them, good luck and never give up hope, I have been in anxiety hell for years, I thought it would actually kill me many times and I don't doubt that there will be hard days ahead still but look, I am still here, still trying, I even have better days and survived anorexia along the way so I am living proof that better times are possible x
