Medications and possible cfs

Posted , 5 users are following.

I have had acid reflux for several months and prior to that ibs. I was prescribed acid supressing

medication tried three different types but all had terrible side effects fatigue, dizziness etc

Came off them but 2plus weeks later still getting extreme debilitating fatigue and slight dizziness. I

definitely didnt feel like this prior to taking the medication but am now wondering if I have developed cfs as a result of taking these drugs. Does this sound fanciful I just cannot think what else it can . be. I went to my surgery about 10days ago feeling as if I might collapse all usual tests blood, blood

sugar, heart etc. normal. Can anyone throw any possible light on this. Very worried and depressed and anxious. I am seeing a therapist privately but only twice so far so dont know how this will go.

I've heard that some asic blockers can actually be helpful in CFS, not the contrary. You didn't try any other medication at the same time, did you?

Have you considered that both health problems - reflux and CFS - are stress reactive and may have been developing/getting worse at about the same time?

Which drugs exactly did you try? I can ask around a bit...

I ams sure that stress is a factor but cant believe it is the main cause???? I was on esomeprazole, then

omeprazole (similar sounding but not tthe same) then pantaprazole all the same family but slighly different just to see if I could tolerate one but I couldnt. Now take a very small amount of ranitidine which isa less

powerful acid blocker and gaviscon. Any info you could find I would be very grateful. I am going to see a my

gastro specialist tomorrow to see if he can throw any light on this. Today I am tired but jittery and slightly

dizzyat the same time and not able to function well. Sleep badly ( although I always have) but never feel

rested. Thank you for responding. Have you got CFS?

I have been on Omeprazole now Lansoprazole , and also getting the same symptoms as CFS , sleepiness tiredness all day despite 12hrs sleep and lack of concentration, ALSO dizziness too. Most of these symptoms stated in a information document on the net,(NHS Choices) as a mild case of CFS booked a Dr's appointment to discuss this , wish me luck.

I wanted to try Esomeprazole but fear it will go the same way as the others , I am now going to try Gaviscon Advance instead on it's own as I was trying the Lansoprazole at night + Gaviscon advance during day.

But I worry about the very sore gut symptoms returning ( had CRP blood checks were high but no specific diagnosis).

Symptoms worsen with Pre menstrual syndrome ( during that time) also a lot of hip pain and back pain .

Hope this helps a bit + any new ufo you know could help me?

I have had CFS for 30 years now and have had periods of relapse and remission all along. Since starting to take omeprazole twice a day 20 months ago my CFS symptoms have returned very badly so much so that I'm having to leave work. I am supposing they might be connected, but so far blood tests for vit/mineral deficiencies have shown nothing.

    I commiserate with you.

hi linda, i was diagnosed with cfs 2 years ago and have, had a mad journey due to this illness.after a year long struggle of trying to work and be a parent and dealing with chronic acid reflux,i was taken into hospital with a suspected heart attack from my place of work. i was pumped full of the latest cardio drugs and kept in hospital over night, all tests came back normal so was discharged from hospital(was not a heart attack)the next few months were spent backwards and forwards to hospital for heart related tests(no problems heart good).still had severe acid reflux, and fatigue and tiredness getting worse, went back to doctors got anti acid tablets(did not work)acid reflux still severe, see yet another doctor, the doctor had me tested for hoy poloi(helicobactor poloiri) at last the cause of the acid reflux.was treated for hoy poloi, with a heavey dose of antibiotics, which in turn left me with ibs(diagnosed by doctor)and then cfs diagnosed,my symptoms now are,i have constant flu and my body is trying to combat that flu.getting diagnosed is hard, dealing with the fact u got an illness is hard(especially when u are a get up and go kind of person who loves life)and now u cant get out of bed sometimes.just take each day at a time and most importantly dont give up going to the doctors until u get a concrete diagnoses, the people i know who have cfs have had some kind of stomach issue`s..
