Hi friends i have been taken amitriptyline for a few months now gradually increasing the dose I am not at 75mg at night 8 know the dry mouth can be a side effect but this is horrendous I am still wakening through the night no because of the fibro but because my mouth is bone dry so have 2 keep drinkin 2 add moisture

tonight I have decided I am going to cut myself back down they don't work for me anyway doctor said if I didn't get any relief at 75mg she would change the type but I am not prepared 2 wait for an appointment to cut the meds I will take 50mg for 2wks then 25 me for a further 2 as I have no 100 left I will then just have the 25 me and take a half

My Tounge feels like it's been burnt all over with a cup of tea and is now effecting my eating. Has anyone else found this on amitriptyline

I can't imagine taking 75 mg of it!!! I was started off on a low dose of 10mg .i  had a problem with dry eyes before but after 3 weeks on it I don't think they have ever recovered.  I looked and felt like I had conjunctivitis.

Lynda I also started on 10 me but it didn't have any effect so was gradually put up doctor just said last week we will try the 75mg but sometimes this doesn't work and mentioned another med she is going to try but just today I have thought sods law I am not taking meds anymore as the side effects are so bad.

I will try other routes and take pain relief when things are bad which is more often than not but 8 I continue 2 take the amitriptyline I won't be able to eat soon as my tongue is not just dry at night but also gettin very sore

Perhaps I shouldn't be,but I'm so wary of Any medicines due to the side effects. I'm determined I'm not taking anything that actually makes me feel worse. We feel bad enough anyway without adding insult to injury!  I take pain killers ,but I'm scared of trying prescription medicine now.

Linda, you are right to be wary.

I nearly became incontinant from Amytriptiline,it has a anesthetic in it,and it affected my bladder to the extent I didn't even notice I was peeing!

I immediately stopped and just use ,as I have said to Chris when my fibro is really bad.

    Hi Chris,

I came acoss this article,it may be of help.

I know we are all different, and have to try different levels of medicine to try help with the pain.

I only take amytriptiline on a need only basis, but need my anxiety tablet every night, along with two co-codamol,forme this works after 15 years.

I have a Tempur pillow and cannot sleep without  satin sheets on my skin! Yes, I know it sounds strange but it seems to help. And it's easier to slide over in bed.

    The site is Pain Concern.Amytriptyline.

    Good Luck Chris.

Thanks moyra I have made my mind up that I am going to gradually drop the amitriptyline I have like everyone else good days and bad so will take pain relief on the bad days

I have reduced my hours at work aswell so hoping that will make a difference

Someone mentioned in an earlier post to try lavender oil on my pillow and that has made a big difference to me sleeping still wake up through the night with pain but not as much

Chris I rub Magnesium oil spray on my legs or wherever I have pain or restless legs....it helps me, but some others say it doesn't, but well worth a try.....Amazon,just the original spray, massage it in,a bit tingly and makes your skin matt but it lasts on me for awhile.

Lavender oil is nice, I use olbas oil on my sheets!

I were put on them a few years ago, and they made my head go very strange so I packed them in. Then the doc put me on Dosulepin another AntiD for help to sleep, and they were just as bad so I packed them in too..

Anne did you gradually go down in strength first as I've been reading up and it's said not to stop all together as will cause side effects

I have enough that I can gradually reduce them I can't wait for them to be out my system now as my tongue is really sore tonight

In pain all over and get prescribed a med that causes me more pain great!!!!!

Hiya Chris, wow!! That's a heavy dose, it will really give you a dry mouth. I take amitriptyline too.  35 mg, just befire bed with 2 Osteo Panadol..- it's Paracetamol but slow release- it's 600  and 500 like ordinary paracetamol..anyway..I use a mouth moisturiser spray.,it's great..taste mint..is really good..I have Sorgrens Syndrome too, that's what makes me soo dry anyway,  but the lower dose of amitriptyline works well for my Fibro .....:-) xxx.  Been on amitriptyline for over 16 years now, never needed an increase...

I've on amitriptyline for about 10 years now - currently on 120mg at night. Def. got the dry mouth but just suck sweets etc during day (odd sip of water at night). Doc took me off the amitrip a couple of years back when I was on about 100mg - she thought that it might be the cause of the acid reflux I was getting (having used it long term) but sore muscles and joints got so bad she put me back on it.
