Have you a proven diagnosis of osteoporosis? Have you had a dexascan and if so, what were your t-scores?
Many doctors will tell patients they need medication when in fact all they have is a slight degree of osteopenia and nowhere near osteoporosis. I had been on pred for well over 7 years at my last dexascan - it was hardly changed from the baseline one I had at the start after 2 months of pred.

Hi Eileen,
I have been waiting to here from you. I have been off predisone for almost 2 years, I had PMR for 1 1/2 years. I had a bone scan and my numbers do not look good. Here are my T scores. My spine is -2.4, my neck is -2.1, my hip is -2.2 my forearm is -3.0 My arm is not looking good. I am really scared to take the meds. What do you suggest? My functional Dr. said I should take Bone builder chewable if i do not want to take the meds for osteoporosis. Thanks for you help.

Karen, Eileen is away on a working trip just now so it may be difficult for her to get back to you for few days. Be patient!
In the meantime, if you haven't already read it please have a look at my account. Just google: healthunlocked my osteoporosis journey

I'm just another patient! The t-scores are all fairly borderline - I have never come across a forearm reading before.
You have a doctor making a suggestion, how do you feel about that? Apart from the forearm reading which would suggest a problem there may be time to try other approaches first. I know nothing about the Bonebuilder chewable product and can't find anything other than sales sites. There are many people with PMR who are taking bone building medications - I don;t think I have heard anyone saying they made their PMR flare up.
And for other approaches you can't do much better than read Anhaga's story which she has linked you to.
