Meds or tactics to suppress Flare-up?

Hello all,

I have recently been diagnosed with Moderate UC through my entire colon. I have had nothing but flare ups with being on prednisone and now Lialda. Has anyone else had any luck with different medication? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I am afraid that colitis can take a while to respond to the drugs. Mine started in january with leaking mucus and small poos. Recently it has started to get better.

    For pain oral morphine.

    Food.

instead of eating a whole meal in one go eat over say 2 hours. Grazing. Avoid high fibre. Lots of fluids.

    Exercise

    keep mobile.

Do not sit on loo for ages straining this causes reduced blood flow to the anus and causes piles.

Lastly keep your moral up. Morphine helps here because it reduces pain. Think your self better.

As bob1234 says Colitis can take its time getting better, by the time you get diagnosed a lot of damage has been done and even if you do everything right it can still take time to heal up. Patience, diet, find something that relaxes the mind yoga, walking, meditation whatever works for you.

Are you an ex smoker? Some people here have started using nicotine patches or even smoking a small amount a day as it apparantly clears up colitis.

    Thanks guys,

I've always been healthy and relatively active with sports but that has all slowed down due to the fact that I have no energy mainly because I don't eat.

I was never a full blown smoker, I would socially smoke in college years.

I would be willing to try patches of it does help!

I'm in a lot of pain as far as abdominal cramping but none of my doctors have said anything about pain meds and I know everything I have read says do not take IBprofen or NSAIDs...problem is Tylenol doesn't work at all.

    Best Regards,

You must eat properly. I know you feel the more you eat the more pain but not eating has serious consequences.

Before I was taken to intensive care with septic shock I stopped eating and drinking because due to septic shock causing dementia I decided that my diahorrea was caused by food and drink. I am lucky to be alive.

No grave is gonna hold my body down. I will beat the colitis. I have faith.

I am an atheist but I still have faith.

      Bob. Sleep tight good night.
