meeting an old friend- anxious and nervous

Posted , 9 users are following.

I'm going shopping with my friend next week, although she's one of my best friends I haven't seen her in ages.

I'm worried that we won't have a laugh or that the conversation won't flow or that it will be awkward.

Any tips or reassurance?

    Hi dear

It is very normal to think and wonder about how would things be when you are about to meet an old friend but she's not just an old friend she is one of your best friends so more than worrying I think you should be relaxed, be excited and look forward to it. People don't change much and if they do they mostly Change towards betterment and I'm sure you you did too. Things will be better now as its two more matured best friends meeting . It's just an old best friend you are meeting not an interview for a job . I'm very sure you will have a great reunion . Best wishes .

    Hello alianne

Don't worry if she is one of your best friends your conversation will flow. Anxiety is a terrible thing stops you from doing all sorts of pleasurable things because of fear. Just meet your friend and relax, you'll probably find you've got lots and lots to talk about if you've not seen one another for ages. The key is to look forward to it

    Good luck

If she is one of your oldest friends then you should still have so much in common. Try not to worry too much. I expect your friend will be nervous too. You have a common bond try and think of the good times you have shared and you'll be fine.  I have a friend that I only see once a year we met when we were 11 and are now both in our 60's. We always chat about the boys we liked and the things we used to get up too and before we know it we are laughing and joking. Just try and relax and you'll be fine.

I have this problem a lot, it's anticipatory anxiety. What I have found helps is being able to tell myself "I'll figure it out when I get there." And I always do. It's never as bad as I think it's going to be. I would say expect that it could be a little awkward, but that you'll be ok!

Most likely you will just slip back into being the person you were when you used to hang out with her. So there is nothing to worry about, if anything it will be a good distraction from your anxieties and might remind you that you are a very worthy likeable person.
