Meeting Makers - Make it!

Here we go!  I know many do not believe AA works.

And AA does not work for everyone...actually it works for a small percentage.

My take on AA is...it works for those that enjoy being around other people.

It works for people that NEED other people to show recognition for thier hard work on sobriety.

It works for people that like ritual, structure and open honesty.

AA has worked for me in the past...I maintained 8 years of sobriety...6 years of that 8...I went to AA almost daily.  AA saved my life when I had no where to turn years ago...no options left.

It is just like any other method....it works for you IF it works for you..LOL.

We (my b/f and I) were driving to a "cheap" store in our area last night...there is a store for food that everything is like one dollar cheaper...you just have to drive a little bit to get there.

He pulls up to a church....I'm like WHY are we here?  Then it hit me that about 1 year ago we attended an N/A meeting there....I felt my body "smile"....That was extremely thoughtful of him as I have been really struggling in recovery this week.

We go into the meeting...I see a few old faces....listen to the speaker...who speaks about how "meeting makers make it"...that stuck with me last night....

I ended up at 815 getting the "Just for Today" key tag...a token of appreciation for my recent days of sobriety....a bunch of clapping for being brave enough to admit and get up to show that I am fighting this condition...a whole lot of "atta girls"...taps on back, hugs....Just what I needed.

Now I have the key tag on my kitchen table and everytime I see it since last night...I smile...I smile for my sobriety....and I'm glad that there are "rooms" to go to where people GET it.....they GET me....they GET how hard this is...

I thanked my b/f for bringing me there....and he said to me...don't thank me....Thank GOD....God put us in that area "tonight".  Another smile.

And I will tell you....there haven't been very many smiles for me this week....the despair has been horrible...to go and listen to someone else share their despair and watch others nod in appreciation for the pain...just made me feel at home.
