Melatonin supplement with Prozac?

Does anybody know for sure if you can take a melatonin supplement with Prozac? I am so fed up with poor sleep and tried it last night. I slept better, but then read that it "may" reduce the effectiveness of the Prozac. Has anybody been taking it for a while without an issue? I am so tired of insomnia sad

I am so sorry as I have been having this issue to. As you know I’m on Prozac to (2 weeks back on) and I was so fed up that I took my Xanax and I rubbed lavedar (essential oil) on my feet and hands. That helped me sleep. I still wake up in the middle of the night but I wait for panic to subside watch Netflix and I fall asleep again as oppose to before where I couldn’t sleep at all.

I am so fed up of it all Tina. Every night seems to be different. How long until we can sleep without using any meds? I am alnost at 3 weeks now and I guess sleep is better than it was but last night was grim.

Dom, I have been on prozac for 12 weeks. It cured my depression but then I started to get insomnia and weight gain. I stopped taking it recently. Im a bit depressed without prozac , im more moody and getting more back pain but I feel my sleep is getting better than before and my weight gain is stopping. I am also taking clonazepam at night to make my sleep better.

Hello Peter, I have been given Lorazepam but when I tried it I didn't sleep great so didn't try again, but that was in week 1. Maybe I should give it another try. I am terrified of benzos.

Are you going to give a different med a try Peter? There are so many ADs to choose from aren't there. Prozac was amazing for me the first time. Just incredible and changed my life. Then I thought I was cured last year so quit cold turkey. Ouch.

Hey dom, I’m still waking yo every couple hours but the oils and xanax helps me sleep for sure. But Prozac did cayses insomnia . I am having a rough time. But not giving up. Cuz I know prozac and doxepin worked last time for me. Today at my intensive therapy I’m gonna pick up the second med (doxepin) . Please ask your doctor about it -or specifically helps with insomnia although my doctor prescribed it cuz of my very sendsrixd stomach.

Wow just read up on Doxepin Tina. Sounds ideal. My doc won't prescribe tho' as she wants me to see a psychiatrist. She says she is "out of her depth" with me. Hopefully I won't have to wait too long for a psych. I'll ask if I can see one privately.

Yeah let's not give up, tempting tho' it may be at times.

Doc game me Lorazepam Peter and I know she won't let me try anything else. She wants me to see a specialist. I read Melatonin affects the ability of the Prozac in animals so it's put me off. Gutted as it was a ray of hope for the sleep.

Oh yah the psychologist won’t prescribe anything. Only spychiatrist! Can you make an appt??? Make an appt and call everyday! Big then it’s the only way. My insurance sucks so I know. Tell them you’ve heard of this med and you read about it.

I’m picking mine up today. I’m nervous to start more meds but as my sister keeps saying “it works for you and you already know that so let’s do it!”

Love your sister's attitude. Sorry I meant a psychiatrist - but have to wait. I'm in the UK so might be a while but doc seems keen for me to see one.

Please let me know how you get on with it.

Hi Im going on my second week of prozac. I also take a 3mg of melatonin I dont think it helped. So my doctor gave ativan to sleep. By the way were you nauseous when you first started the prozac.

      Hello Clay,

No, I didn't feel nauseous, but had lots of the other side effects. It got easier after the 2nd week for me but still lousy sleep. I too have the Ativan/Lorazepam. Does it work for you? How many hours sleep do you get? I have taken so many benzos due to anxiety leading up to the start of the Prozac that I am real wary of taking it. Maybe I should bite the bullet.

Also nausea is a huge side effect of Prozac. And it sucks. I was telling dom that’s why my doctor had to persceibe me another med several weeks after I started Prozac .

Another night of lousy sleep for me. Does diazepam on it's own work for sleep?
