Memory and concentration

Hi

Been on 50 mg sertraline since January for anxiety, and was the lucky one with very few side affects. The only problem I have found is at work, my short time memory is not as good..

MY Colleague will say to me we discussed something last week, and I can even remember it. Another example is, I will be flicking through spreadsheets and can't remember what I was wanting . Very annoying

Has anyone else found it this, as I feel it is affecting my job, and as it is payroll, my anxiety gets worse on payday if I make a mistake

Yes unfortunately this med does effect your short term memory! I've been on it for 6 weeks and luckily am retired so my memory obviously is not as vital as yours. Hopefully like the other side effects it will go away....

    Hi

It is more likely to be your anxiety which is causing the memory issues. The constant worrying and focus on yourself means the brain isn't retaining information as it is too busy with other stuff. As you relax and let external things in, your memory will return.

I agree......I think it's the stress which is making you forgetful.  Yesterday, I found a pair of shoes in a box......I'd bought them last year and completely forgotten about them!

Yes, anxiety medication will do this. Specially the Benzo's. I'm on Diazepam and even at the lose dose is affecting me.  In my case I'm retired, so just like the other member is affecting me but not that much.

    Hi Annebelle

I did witness a stage where a seemed to develope a short term memeory loss where by i had to really think what id been doing earlier on in the day but that passed over around 3 weeks maybe its geting used of the medication or focusing to hard.

I have found my short term memory is one of the worst symptoms with my anxiety, and has been affected by my setraline now up to 100mg. It becomes embarassing,  I am always apologising for my poor memory. I now have been buying brain games, pocket size, so when I have a minute I get my book out and am distracted for ten mins  or so, I have found that the discipline and concentration has had a good effect on my memory, and I get a good vibe when I correct my answers and they are right. Is it possible for you to record discussions/ instructions, so when you have time you can listen to  the recording and underpin the advice.
